Customer Reviews

Apparantly not all HDMI cables are created equal. I bought a few of these HDMI cables the same time I bought a new bluray player and received them at the same time. I hooked them up to my Bluray player in my bedroom and tested my player out with Brave noticed the picture quality was grainy compaired to the movie being played on the family's TV in the living room, where the picture was crystal clear. Brave for those who don't know is a CGI animated movie that was released earlier this year. It's not supposed to look grainy. And to make matters worse whenever I push the popup menu button on the remote the screen went blank, then the No signal detected message came on the TV screen. I couldn't get rid of it until I literally detatch the cable from the back of the player and reattach it.I thought I got a faulty cable so I replaced it with another of the four cables I bought and I got the same results. I then put blame on my bluray player and got it replaced. During the wait between getting the replacement bluray player I hooked up the first HDMI cable I used on the bluray player to the HD cable receiver on the family's TV and got a grainy picture on every HD channel. I took it out and replaced it with the original HDMI cable I got from Monoprice and the HD channels looked clearer. I did research and found out that Bluray players and newer model HD and HDDVR cable boxes require a High Speed HDMI cable for "optimal performance". Reread this pages' specs for these HDMI cables and it didn't say it was high speed.Got the replacement bluray player and the retailer was kind enough to include a HDMI cable which was high speed. Needless to say the picture quality was superb and it didn't konk out when I pushed the popup menu button. I blame myself for not realizing it was the cable's fault and for not doing the research. To sum it up these HDMI cables are basically obsolete and to get certified high speed HDMI cables. They may cost a couple bucks more but they're worth it. 1Cheap cable at a cheap price I've used this cable on two different monitors and have had weird flickering and static effects on both, and a a couple of times in the middle of a video chat. (Very annoying!) I understand that many high-end HDMI cables are pure snake oil - but sometimes build quality does matter. I purchased Twisted Veins (also available on Amazon) and they've been superb on a daily basis over the past six months or so. Plus, they were only about $5 more, definitely worth it. 2Better than Godzilla Cable Get these cheap cables. They are as good as expensive Monster cables -- better actually. Why? HDMI is a digital-signal only cable. There is no analog signal to get religious about. Bits is bits. A Monster zero is no more zeroish than a four-dollar cable's zero. Ditto for ones. Here's some fun facts. The HDMI 1.3 spec tells us that all HDMI cables have to be certified as meeting the standard in order to use the HDMI name. HDMI 1.3 runs a 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second). For perspective, this is 21 times faster than USB 2.0 at 480 Mbps. Fast. The standard was cleverly designed to be robust, reliable, efficient (low power), high capacity, and LOW COST to manufacture. The HDMI cable contains 4 high-speed low-power differential-signal shielded connections -- in addition to 5 volt power and some low-speed digital signals for devices to talk back and forth to each other. Three of the high-speed connections carry respectively the red, green, and blue uncompressed video bitstreams. The fourth carries a synchronous clock, which cunningly allows the receiving chip to economically recover the bits in the other 3 channels at this extreme speed. Uncompressed audio is also sent (on a time slice basis) over the 3 video channels. Whereas the 1.3 spec supports 10.2 Gbps, your BluRay player rarely exceeds 5 Gbps -- depending on content such as color depth and the number of audio channels. There's plenty of excess capacity in your cheap cable. (Read the FAQ and white papers at HDMI dot ORG for more.)So why is this dinky cable better than an expensive one? The Expensive Brands have wide-diameter cables with unnecessarily long connectors. This must give the appearance of being totally awesome. However, the wires INSIDE are the same size and layout as for any other HDMI cable. They must be in order to match electrical capacitance, impedance and shielding parameters required conform to the 10.2 Gbps spec. But, importantly, this bulky bloated thickness puts weight and tension on the connectors of your expensive LCD TV and BluRay player and other equip. Why would you want to put mechanical stress on these sockets? Bad idea. And their bits are not better bits: just 0s and 1s. 5Great value - and it works! I paid under 3 dollars for this cable, including delivery, and I just plugged it from my laptop HDMI port to my 15" counter top kitchen TV HDMI port. I selected HDMI as the source on the TV and then started running a purchased episode of Downton Abbey from the Amazon.com site on the laptop. Incredibly (to me), it just works. There may be a very slight loss of clarity in the TV picture (not sure yet), but I still give it 5 stars when I consider the price and the ease of getting it done. The sound seems perfect. This is my first attempt to run anything from a computer to a TV so I'm very happy with the successful results. I haven't tested it on a larger TV yet, but for this use I have described, it is fine and dandy. 5Just what I needed I bought this because the prices of it where I live is extremely high and their not selling this length its way longer and all I wanted it for was to set up a streaming media player to watch youtube and netflix. It came in very handy, the price was excellent and it suits its purpose. 5Great! Great! 5Two thumbs up Two thumbs up 5Excellent HDMI cable If you don't want excess cable this is the answer. It is 4 x's cheaper than a famous national discount store. Perfect HD reception (Roku hookup--I saw a couple of reviews that said it didn't work with Roku--worked fine for me). I received a day earlier than promised and it was shipped in protective packaging. Roku users need to go to "Settings" and select 720p or 1080p setting before it will display Hidef. 5Buy a different one The cable wires are very skinny so there is no shielding. This cable made my HDTV look like a it had antennas, the picture was snowy and had a lot of interference. Look for another brand of cables. I got a refund and company didnt even want the old ones back, just threw them in the trash. 1Incredible value. Works beautifully and is the right length for what I need without extra cord laying around. I used this to hook up a new LED backlit HD TV. It works wonderfully. You can replace this with a cable that costs as much as 20 times what this costs yet your picture will be no different. No pixelation when I am viewing Blu Ray source. Don't be fooled by the nuts out there that have to have expensive cables. You don't! 5
