Customer Reviews

Poor Design, Gerber normally does better. DisappointingI've had Gerber tools before and they have always been well thought out and of good quality. This one was neither. The 3 major problems were (past tense):1) The locking mechanism is very difficult to release, requiring substantial effort from both hands. If your hands are cold or wet, it can easily tear your skin as the metal part is small and more sharply textured than prudent, and it requires so much pressure to release.2) The loop to attach the tool to your keyring is flush with the blade of the knife, when the knife is folded. This means that if you have a circular metal keyring, the ring will rub against the blade, instantly creating a dull spot on the blade. The only solutions are not to put this on a keyring or grind the blade down so it is smaller. Both are bad solutions.3) The keyring loop is not very resistant to random effects of being in your pocket. Mine fell off in less than 60 day and I never saw it again. I'm not sad about this, as I would have replaced it anyways. 1Nice tool, but don't use the carabiner clip (suggestion included) This is a nice little keychain sized tool. At 26g (according to my scale) it's lightweight enough not to cause much discomfort in your pocket or damage to your car's ignition. It has a nicely sized blade (for its size), two flat drivers, one philips driver, and a bottle opener (is there any multi-tool ever made that doesn't come with a bottle opener?) The sides of the philips driver contain two handy small metal files. The weak spot of the tool is the carabiner clip: it's clear to me that it will eventually fail, leading to the loss of the tool. There are many other reviews mentioning this already, so I'll offer an alternative: Instead of using the clip, thread a regular keychain metal ring through the "pin" that holds both halves of the tool together (see my picture). The pin is an integral part of the tool and shouldn't fail like the clip. 4It's the perfect size! It's the perfect size! Not too heavy, yet it has some weight to it so that I know it isn't "cheaply" made. It is sharper than I expected. Very happy with it & can't wait to use it! 5My first Gerber disappointment. I've liked every Gerber product I've bought except for one - this knife. It's difficult to close one-handed, and the screwdriver is TERRIBLE. It's oddly shaped, and it's the rare screw that I've found it to work well with. Plus, the clip is not very reliable - it's fallen off of my key chain more than once. I guess it's back to a good old Victorinox classic SD for me. 2I like it so much I bought it twice The key (no pun intended) to my love of this is the size. I don't want a ton of clutter on my keys, but I like having the utility of a multi-tool close at hand. It's so small, I often forget it's there until I need it. I bought a second one (per my review's title) because I accidentally left it on my keys trying to enter a concert. Oops, confiscated. The Curve is smaller than the keyfob for my car and slides easily next to the fob and my house keys, resulting in not too much bulk. The carabiner-like hook makes it easy to get on and off my keychain, making it much easier to use than if it was more permanently attached. The knife is small, but effective for small tasks. The other tools exist and have saved me from chasing down real tools more than a few times.Though I like the curve, it's not perfect. The blade isn't the greatest I've had. It dulls quickly and never seemed that sharp to begin with. The caribiner attachment that makes it so easy to use is also pretty chintzy. I haven't lost one yet because of this, but it seems like they could have made it better. The tools are obviously not as good as you'd get in a bigger multi-tool, but that's the price of the form factor. The curve is exactly what I was looking for, but it might not be what you want. If you want a tool to keep in a bag, but something bigger/better. If you plan to use it constantly, buy something bigger/better. But if you want something that disappears in your pocket and will occasionally help you open a box or loosen a screw or open a beer, this may be the tool you're looking for too. 5Size Matters This little Gerber Curve is "cute" if nothing else. I assure you that heavy maintenance tasks will laugh at this little guy. However it was never designed for this. Personally, I have never been a big fan of Gerber products. However, times are changing for this company, I am thinking. This little Curve is 2 7/32" long when fully closed. It measures a total of 3 1/2" long with the blade extended. Body thickness on the Curve at the widest point is 1/2". The little blade does have a working side lock. This mini tool has 6 tools as described. The fit and finish are pretty good. I shall supply 4 pictures with this review. I bought the silver/gray one. For what this mini tool is, I will give it 5 stars :) 5A great concept with a poor execution This little keychain tool is an ideal size with a nice collection of the everyday tools I want and none of the fluff I don't need. But it has one small problem and one big one. The small problem is that the phillips head screw driver is oddly shaped and doesn't fit well in many screw heads. Awkward, but not a deal breaker. But the big problem is that the carabiner clip is complete garbage. About once a week one side of the wire (it's just a thin little wire!) pops out of its hole and the tool falls right off my keychain. And every time I pop the wire back into place I think it'll be the last time I'll be able to fix it before the wire gets lost or breaks. Gerber has a strong warrantee on their products and I have a feeling I'm going to have to send this dumb thing back to them to have the carabiner clip replaced several times before I finally lose it or just give up on it. Too bad, they were really close to having a perfect little keychain tool. 3Still in great shape, after almost 5 years! NOV 2017 UPDATE:Quick update after almost 5 years of use. This has been a daily driver on my keychain since Jan 2013, and I am happy to report that it is still hanging in there. As you can see from my most recent photo, it does show its age, with some visible wear and tear, but otherwise, it is as useful as ever. All of the tools still lock firmly into place, perform well, and have never let me down. There is no side play or looseness with any of the tools, and it still remains closed when not in use. The carabiner clip has occasionally bent, and popped out of place a couple times over the years, but it is easy to put back into place, and I have not lost it yet. All in all, this little thing continues to be a discreet and handy tool to have available, and I regularly put it to good use. In fact, I am as impressed with this tool's durability, as I am with the staying power of the teeny diamonds on the purple Barbie key which also appears in my photos over time.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I purchased this in January of 2013, and, after spending over a year and a half jangling away on my keychain, my Gerber Curve is still as intact and useable as it was the day I put it there. The blade is still sharp enough for whatever one might need a teeny knife for, and the screwdriver blades are still nice and square. The bottle opener has probably seen more use than any of the other tools (work hard, play hard) but it too, and the clip that holds the tool on my keyring are both still as good as ever. In my photos, you can see both the wear it has endured over time, and how, in addition to its other myriad uses, it also provides the additional service of lending some small amount of manly credibility to the diamond-encrusted purple Barbie key, with which it shares its real estate.Would buy again. 5Great addition to bartender tool keyring. Great utility in a compact size. I needed a small non-threatening knife for work, to open boxes, get the plastic seals off bottles and such. The screw driver blades also come in handy, as something always goes wrong behind the bar, and I can do a quick fix with them in a pinch before maintenance can get to it. The knife blade came with a wonderfully sharp edge. Construction is every bit as solid as one would expect from Gerber. The small size fits well on a key ring with my mini speed opened and tiny flashlight I keep in my back pocket for convenience at work. It is light enough that I don't notice extra weight on my pocket, and it won't pull my real bottle opener out .of my pocket. It is light enough not to impede the use of my attached speed opener. I did take other's advice on key ring attachment, skipping the tiny carabiner. Great little tool. 5The most wonderful little tool that will come off your keychain in ... The most wonderful little tool that will come off your keychain in under a week. The clip that "holds" it onto your keychain has come loose no less than 7 times in two weeks. I've found it in my car floorboard three times, twice it's been returned to me at work, and I've finally taken one of the inner strings from some paracord and physically tied it to my keys. 1
