Customer Reviews

You get what you pay for OK for the price, but rivet of scale arm is slightly misplaced, so angles nearing 180" degrees are difficult to read because the sweep arm covers the underlying degree markings.Oddly, comes with no instructions. But General Tools customer service emailed a one page .pdf instruction sheet that broke the code. This protractor met my needs for an approximate angle, but falls short for precision measuring. 3Feels cheap and weak, but it is a great idea, a good tool to have Great concept, poor execution... this thing is so fragile. It needs a better design to "lock" because twisting that knob can easily break the plastic that it screws into, and the plastic that holds it. Feels cheap and weak, but it is a great idea, and as long as you are careful and don't break it then it will be useful 3Quite good for lightweight tasks and approximate angles I rate this up from the other product reviews. I purchased this protractor for minor and imprecise but repeatable settings aligning up two separate pieces of equipment on My bicycle. The exact angles are not important; but repeatability is. For 5$ I thought I could not go wrong, if the protractor was easy to use. It is exactly what I needed and it works very well. I enjoy that the unit is small and lightweight. This protractor is not made for major construction projects and obviously requires easy handling. The only con I have is that it would have been easier for Me to use had there been a bubble level made into it. I overcame this and attached a bubble level of My own. I am pleased to have found it on Amazon and I would buy another should the need arise. 4"T" for TRASH, not terrific. This thing doesn't even work right. It shows 100 degrees for a 90 degree angle. Either find another maker or a metal one, as this is GARBAGE. 1This thing is JUNK. This thing is flimsy junk, you can tell where it was assembled that they used heat to push the rivets through for the connectors. Looking at this pic you see here, where those short arms connect to the longer arm is by rivets and they melted the plastic too much, making the hole for the rivet too big. So my 90 degree angle is more like 87 degrees, I measured it with a carpenter's square and an angle measure at work. Terrible quality, I should have returned it if I had the time. 1Cheap tool, but you'll be surprised on where this could be useful! For me, I measured the angles of my home adjustable bench! When I saw this protractor on sale, I bought it just because I did not have a tool like this to the extent of flexbility this tool has. And it was cheap for what it was.I did find a great use so far since buying it! For my adjustable bench for my home gym, I always remembered the angle by the 'notch' I set the bench at; however, there was no actual angle measurement for it. This tool actually helped me spit out angles for every notch on my bench! I'm sure I'll find other uses for it too. 5Terrible design - unusable Terrible design. The sliding arm completely covers the markings so you can't see the angle after you make your measurement. I need an EXACT angle to cut; I don't want have to guess if it's 43 or 44 degrees. The return period was past when I finally went to use this product so I'm stuck with this plastic piece of junk. 1Giving it two stars, but only grudgingly I was tempted to give this one star, but it basically works, so I'm giving two.The reasons I was tempted to only give one:> Only one of four scales has a functional pointer.> Lack of instructions. The one scale that has a pointer didn't make sense to me (it reads 45 degrees when the arms are perpendicular). I eventually figured out that it's for use when using the angled edge of the main plate, but that could have been explained by a diagram. Another reviewer, in fact, says it's worthwhile to keep the card the item comes attached to. From the photos on the website, I can see that there is (or was) a package that has(had) diagrams on it, but the package mine came in is of no help at all. (By the way, it's not that I find geometry difficult... I have college degrees in physics, engineering, and architecture... yeah, I'm overeducated. But the point is that geometry isn't as second nature to most people as it is to me.)> It's smaller than I realized (mostly my fault for not studying ALL the photos, but even now that I have, it's a bit smaller than implied... the hands in the photo must be fairly small)This device could be useful to someone for whom accuracy isn't very important and who doesn't really need to use it for much. I wish I'd spent more and bought a tool that was at least good enough to be of use to me. 2Can't measure acute angles I wanted to measure an acute angle in one of my closets, but realized that it can't do the job as for acute angles (less than 45 degrees or whatever the angle of the big plastic piece with the numbers is) that piece will get in the way so you can't really measure anything smaller than that. For square or larger angles it works as advertised. 2Not accurate! Do not buy this. I should have read the reviews before ordering, but I did not. After all, in the 21st century how difficult is it to make an accurate protractor? How could you screw this up? Ask General Tools. Immediately upon opening it I set the protractor to 45 then 90 degrees to check it. At 90 it is very obvious the unit is off by a few degrees (set at 90 it is acute by 3 degrees). If you attempted using this for work requiring any amount of precision you would be out of luck. I had planned on using this to measure angles for trim pieces to cut on my compound miter saw. If you were 'ballparking it' this might be almost useful or if you knew to adjust for the inaccuracy, but you should not have to do that. 1
