    Personal Alarms make sensePersonal alarms are a great way to protect yourself from an attack because they startle attackers, draw much unwanted attention, can be disorienting if they are loud enough (this one is), and unlike mace or a weapon, cannot be used against you by your attacker.This unit in particular is smaller and lighter than ones I have seen in the past, so it should be convenient and easy to take with you everywhere. I do wish that it came with a clip because it is awkward attached to my keychain.The included "light" is indeed a joke, but the purpose of this unit is to serve as an alarm, not as a light. Even if it did have a powerful and useful light (instead of a small pathetic red LED), I would not recommend using the light feature. You don't want to run down the batteries on your ALARM.Other thoughts: It would not be terribly difficult to modify one of these units to serve as a bike alarm in conjunction with a bicycle lock. A bike theif looking for a quick steal would most likely overlook the alarm and set it off. This thing is so loud that you can't tell where the sound is coming from, so the theif would have a difficult time finding the alarm and putting the pin back in it...if you're lucky he'll drop the bike and run instead. 5Not nearly as loud as others.The sound is just not that loud or piercing as the oval ones from radio shack or the door-stop alarms. Those models hurt my ears. This alarm sound is also too high pitched to be very effective. 2Almost good enoughThis alarm is loud and easy to set off, but that's just the problem. It's too easy to set it off accidentally because you can get the loop caught on your clothes, purse, finger, etc. and set the thing off in the mall like I did. I also wish it had a flashing alert light.That being said, I carry it a lot and it does make me feel safer. 3
