Description

PURPOSE: The FGX-648 (where X = antenna length in feet) series, 'No ground plane" (NGP) CB antenna kits were specifically designed to solve the problems associated with the lack of ground plane. This normally occurs on vehicles constructed of plastic, fiberglass, wood or aluminum. Ground plane problems typically show up in the form of high standing wave ratio (SWR) and poor performance. The isolated ground plane that is built into the FGX-648 series kits can also eliminate problems on metal base vehicles that lack the sufficient ground plane for proper operation.
COMPONENT INFORMATION:
ANTENNA: The antennas used in these kits is altered in order to maintain a desirable center band position when used with the tuned coaxial feedline. Accordingly, these antennas may only be used with the Firestik NGP cable. The antenna used in these kits have our patented "no tools required" tunable tip for fast and easy SWR adjustments. The rated wattage for these kits is 100 watts.
COAXIAL FEEDLINE: The seventeen-foot (5.2 M) coaxial cable used in these kits is of the highest quality. We use a multi-wire stranded center conductor to the prevent breakage that can occur with solid center conductor cable. The coaxial feedline serves as a tuned circuit that creates the necessary counterpoise. If a longer cable length is required, the user may add standard RG-58 A/U cable between the radio and system cable, preferably in lengths that are multiples of nine feet. Because it is a tuned circuit, the length cannot be reduced without causing non-repairable damage.
MOUNT, SPRING AND HARDWARE: To compliment the quality of the antenna and feedline, the mount used in these kits is our stainless steel, 3-way 90° angle mount. A stainless steel spring with machined brass ends acts as the coupling between the antenna and the feedline.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES: Each kit includes a FREE microphone hanger.

Customer Reviews

Read all instructions and you'll be very happy. Everything you need to install, plug into your radio and start tuning.Read all literature provided with the antenna. It's a little annoying how some is on a sheet, some the box and some in a booklet 5nice product Works as described. the no ground plane is awesome. 3Excellent, quality product and follow instructions. I drive a 2013 Freightliner. The cab is fiberglass and aluminum. The radio is a Uniden Bearcat 880. Couldn't find an antenna that would work with this radio and truck. Fiberglass and aluminum doesn't ground very well. So, my last option was this firestick negative ground plane antenna. So very happy with this antenna. It paired perfectly with my radio and truck. A bit of advice, when the time comes to put the red tip that covers and protects the top of your antenna, make sure you push it on as far it will go. If you don't, trees will rob you of the tip and adjusting screw. Rendering your antenna and radio useless and calling customer service for help. At least I was able to use my radio for one day. 5Fixed SWR Problem I have a Kenworth T800 with a Uniden PC78ltd CB radio. My SWR was off the charts after trying different antennas and cables. It never dawned on me that the ground plane was the problem. After installation, my SWR readings are still around 2 on the low band even after raising the antenna all the way, but my most important channel (19) reads an SWR of 1.2, same with every channel up to 40.The quality of the antenna and spring are very sturdy. However, I have not used the amount included as I already have one on the truck. 4Attic antenna I was able to obtain acceptable SWR readings from antenna placed in my attic. Wood-asphalt roof construction. This is a great solution to deed restricted communities. 100 % better than a magnet mount antenna on a piece of sheet metal. 5Vert Sturdy to resist winds and great reception. It was easy to set the swr's (once I looked up how to do it!) READ the instructions and DO NOT CUT or trim the coax. The length of the coax is already "tuned" with the Firestik at the factory. The Firestik came with a Stainless Steel mounting bracket That I used along with an extension bracket I custom made from 1/4" thick angle iron and 1/4" flat bar. It attaches to the underside of the bed between the cab. It is also clamped to the top of the cab where the sheet metal is formed down behind the cab (a 1" gap). Not much room but I was not ready to drill ANY holes in my new truck! The truck bed cover is also not in the way either. The Firestik looks great on my truck and I am ready for the road! 5Junk Connection to bottom of antenna broke within a few days absolutely junk will be sending back plus the seller lagged on shipping product 1Cured my Freightliner I drive a Freightliner Cascadia with the worse than useless CB antenna built into the roof. Wasted money on a couple of antenna setups that would never work because of the fiberglass roof and hood. This kit is the first time I've gotten an acceptable SWR and been able to talk across a parking lot. 5Used on mobile home install.. Works great.. Took some tuning but I got it to an SWR of 1-1.1 on channel 40 and 1-1.3 on channel 1..I learned NOT to use an external SWR on testing with this as the SWR came in way high.. thinking the coax being proprietary had something to do with that. After removing external SWR meter things got normal.. I used my Galaxy 929 CB's internal SWR meter..This was installed on the end of my mobile home (see pic).. No place for a ground plane or big 'base' antenna, so I tried this.. I am happy. 5Great buy! This has been great! We never had a CB in our side by side until this summer and I am amazed we didn't put one in sooner! We go riding with my brother a lot and it is fun to be able to talk during the ride without having to stop. The FireStik has worked great and stands up to everything pretty well. 4
