Customer Reviews

Solidly Built and Get's the Job Done So far so good with this hub.I was looking for an overbuilt USB 3.0 hub to connect multiple audio components to my Windows PC.I had to search "USB 3.0 data industrial" to find options like this one but am happy that I dug a little deeper than the typical Anker, Sentry, SIIG, etc... USB hubs. This hub is built solidly from an engineering perspective and the square shape gives you the option to either set it up vertically or on its side (which many current hubs do not offer). I currently have a USB DAC and a Glyph pro audio hard drive connected and everything sounds fine when playing audio through it (no obvious issues with latency or distortion)... My previous attempt with another big PC accessories company ended up injecting static and hash into the signal ruining the audio quality. With the Dyconn in hand I spent about 3 hours yesterday with my two most critical components hooked up to this hub listening to high resolution audio through my PC and couldn't be happier.I will probably buy a USB 3.0 cable with Ferrite Cores to provide an extra level of RF/EMI protection but beyond that, am happy with this hub as is. 4Failed after 5 months use. This replaced the "Sabrent Premium 4 Port Aluminum USB Hub (9.5" cable) for iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Mini, or any PC (HB-UMAC)" I purchased a couple of months ago.The Sabrent started getting hickey over time, losing it's connection and bouncing out of contact with the Mac for which the Mac chastised me. Frequent USB memory stick changes in and out didn't work for it, I think.THIS DYCONN POWERHUB SUPER SPEED 4 PORT INDUSTRIAL GRADE USB 3.O HUB WITH POWER ADAPTER, ALUMINUM ALLOY FAILED AT 5 MONTHS AND 2 DAYS.Made me think my printer had died. MY STAR RATING DROPS FROM 5 to 1. Replacing it with a router that has a 5 year warranty with the money I saved by canceling my printer replacement order from Amazon. Computer crud just wastes my time. 1Awesome for USB 3.0/2.0 External Hard Drives! This is an excellent USB Hub. I ve used others (such as Anker, Aukey, Kanex) and this one is by far the best. It s made out of industrial grade aluminum and the fittings are tight and well manufactured. You can feel the difference in quality from others. The On/Off switch is also a plus for drives that don t spin down once all volumes are unmounted (just be sure to unmount them all before powering the hub itself off). The Hub's controller automatically maps USB 2.0 devices to the machine s USB 2.0 bus (and 3.0 devices to 3.0 bus). It does not matter what order the devices are plugged into the hub. Though I d normally order the devices according to the protocol, I ordered them randomly in this case:Port 1: USB 3.0 2TB Toshiba external hard drivePort 2: USB 3.0 1TB HGST external hard drivePort 3: USB 2.0 16GB Sandisk flash drivePort 4: USB 3.0 500 GB composite drivePort 5: USB 2.0 logitech mouse (wired)Port 6: USB 2.0 4 GB flash drivePort 7: USB 3.0 128 PNY Turbo flash driveSee the image for the resulting USB device tree within the computer s system info.To verify that there was no drop in I/O speeds for the USB 3.0 devices, I ran Black magic Disk Tests on a few. The R/W performance was the same, whether connected via Dyconn s Hub or directly into one of my machine s USB ports.1TB USB 3.0 External Drive (Port 2):Read: 120 MB/sWrite: 99 MB/s128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Port 7):Read: 180 MB/sWrite: 80 MB/sHighly recommended! 5Provided the additional USB 3.0 ports without performance degradation. I purchase this item for a laptop that only has 1 USB 3.0 port. I do allot of data transfers from my laptop to external HD's as back ups. I store mostly photos that I have edited and this device can in handy for the additional ports needed.I use USB 3.0 External HDs and I avg. a transfer rate of about 45-75MB/s (depending on the device I am using) and between 2 external HD transferring files ranging in 5MB to 30MB each file, the transfer rates are very reliable at 50MB/s on avg. and sometimes I see it spike sitting at 75-85MB/s if the device I am using is consistent. Transferring larger files will slow things down, but not by much. If I am transferring files from a powered (external powered) HD to another, I get better speeds that can be as fast as 95MB/s. However, from the experience I have had, the transfer rate will be determined by the device you are using but the USB Hub can handle whatever you throw at it.The USB cable is heavy duty and the housing is made of complete metal which feel much better than the cheaper plastic versions I have used in the past. You will need to use the AC Adapter plugged into the device, it may be a little inconvenience for those looking for portability, but I have this device stationed on my desk so this was a none issue for me.I also use this to charge my phone when I am sitting on my desk, does the job without hitch like it should.Overall the product performs as its advertise and the price isn't too bad either. You can get cheaper ones that are made of plastic, but the feel of this unit is much more sturdy. 5Very nicely built hub This hub is extremely well made, from a mechanical perspective. Having been a machinist & tool designer for 20 some years, I can honestly say that this is how I would build a hub. It is constructed from extruded aluminum with punched holes for the ports. The finish is sort of a semi-matte black (a bit glossier than a true matte black) with a textured finish. I cannot speak for the quality of the electronics inside, nor the construction of the actual USB ports. I assume this hub contains low-cost Chinese built electronic components, housed in no less than a military-duty housing.I believe Mark's review of 2 stars was a bit harsh, and seems to reflect his understandable frustration of the overall purchase & return, and subsequent customer service directly from the company. I get that, I hate hassles like what he went through. But the hub the itself does not merit only 2 stars by any means. However, I do have a point of concern: the specs state that this hub will supply 900ma per port. That is great. But then why does it ship with a 2000ma (2a) power supply? 900 x 4 is 3600 where I went to school. I also am not an electronics wizard, so perhaps there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for this. Or not.Off the record, this is a 5-star hub. It is truly the nicest hub I have seen or used. On the record, I am giving 4 stars for this review. I have subtracted 1 star because the manufacturer is fully aware of a serious compatibility issue with this, yet they have still not updated the description to reflect this, despite having had ample time and additional verification that there is, in fact a problem. Apparently they would rather frustrate additional customers, so for the Mark's out there, they lose a star until I see that they have decided to show real customer support. 4Built to last This is built like a tank: Excellent quality. Win 7 Pro 64 bit recognized all of portable drives and USB flash drives immediately. Some complain about there being no feet. I can see their point, but the truth is the user should decide how to position this and the design makes that possible. It's more convenient for me to lay it on its side, so that the cables plug in horizontally instead of on top. I added four adhesive cushions on the surface where the name appears in the picture since that will be facing down (I used the clear plastic pads that are a little smaller than a dime and are widely available at hardware stores, etc.)I have no problem with the indicator lights, which are tiny.Excellent hub. It's great to see a device that isn't cheap plastic.Update: Works fine with 240V. I use when traveling outside the US and it's fine. Great device. I'm running four 2 TB WD external drives, 2 Lexar USB flash drives and a pretty fat wi-fi dongle: All fit easily and work with no issues.Follow-up: I like this hub so much that I bought a second one for my desktop (the first one was for travel, with my laptop). 5Dead after 10 months I was using this hub with my Mac Pro desktop, as it only has 2 USB 3.0 ports on it. I needed more and wanted room for growth and convenience. I had 2 hard drives (one of which uses it's own power supply), a USB 3.0 card reader, and a MIDI keyboard plugged into it. A few days ago, it would not power up. I tested the power supply and found it to be good, meaning either the power button went bad, or something else in the hub failed. I suspect it is the latter, as I had been experiencing some drive access system freezes (infinitely spinning rainbow of annoyance) and have not experienced one such freeze since removing this hub from my system. I have emailed the manufacturer and await a response. I'll update if they replace the unit. 1This is not a Toy!! This USB hub is definitely an industrial strength tool!! I bought this to replace a Hub that simply stopped working with routine use after a couple of months. The old hub was made of plastic and on initial use the top and bottom halves broke apart. I super glued it and it worked great for a few months. Then for no reason it just quit. In contrast this Dyconn Hub is constructed like a brick (OUT)house. It is contained in a very, very heavy gauge solid aluminum case. You could stand on this thing and not dent it. The 7 ports are slightly recessed into the case which gives excellent stability to the cable inserted. The power switch is easily accessible. It appears to easily supply full USB 3.0 900 mA to each port. The one thing I miss from previous Hub is the 2 Power only ports for charging my IPad and phone. So far the Dyconn Hub has been absolutely flawless and recognizes everything I plug into it. It also does NOT have that weird quirk that messes with a USB 2.0 wireless mouse dongle, good work guys!! I have multiple USB 3.0 hard drives plugged in and transfer speeds are superb. Video file transfers that took about 8 minutes now average maybe 2-4 minutes max!! PROS: SOLID, FAST, RELIABLE, COMPATIBILITY. CONS: NO POWER ONLY PORTS. 5so far, a very nice USB 3.0 hub okay, I just got this today but thought i should write an initial review based on what I am seeing so far.ProsSolidly constructed unit. I could more than likely use this as a hammer (wouldn't as hammers are cheaper) but it is that solid a constructionWell packaged in a professionally manufactured box, the unit itself packaged in sealed plastic, along with a cable to connect to the computer (bit on that in a second) and a nice little power block.Instruction manual included (English and well-written at that). I've purchased some highly rated hubs that arrived with no documentation and very cheap construction. The cable is very nice, and thicker than most, more than likely to carry power to all ten connectionsNo loose connections. All connections are tight and don't move once connected. This was the issue (at least it appeared so) with the other hubs as invariably I would hear my computer beep as something became disconnected or worse, a short circuit that would either lock up my computer or wouldn't allow the computer to even turn on (could only turn it on after I unplugged el cheapo hub). I took my keyboard usb connection and plugged it into all ten of them and not one loose, movable connectionI have tried my usb 3.0 external drive and it works fine with just the one cable... no power issues yetDid a very quick read-write test using a usb 3.0 thumbdrive (solid state) and no slower than connecting it directly to the computer (met USB 3.0 standards in both cases)ConsIt is big but more than likely that is necessary to support the size of the board the usb sockets are connected to. I wasn't looking at using this as a hub for my laptop and glad I wasn't.... big to carry as a portable device. I am however going to check and see if they have a smaller one that would be more suitable for a laptopOverall, i am so far (albeit one afternoon) very happy with this. No disconnects, no unidentified usb devices messages, no computer lock-ups, etc. Seems solidly constructed of metal (no plastic here) with what appears to be some conscious thought to make it what they call "industrial grade".All of my computers are running Windows 8.1 Pro so I can't speak to compatibility with other operating systems. Will update if anything happens 5Super sturdy unit that works as good as it looks Bought a new desktop and was debating to whether install an additional internal USB 3.0 card but ultimately opted for an external one. I did research on the various choices available and opted for this one due to the more positive reviews than bad one plus the 8 USB 3.0 slots. It requires external power to drive it and has an on/off switch, which allows more control of the unit. I have all 8 slots occupied with external hard drives, thumb drives, charging cables, and as a connector for my digital cameras and external DVD burner. It functions flawlessly with my new PC and Windows 7 OS. I have it on fully plugged, 24 hours a day since I installed it more than 30 days ago with not malfunctions whatsoever. my computer recognizes all devices plugged in and it was a simple plug and play. Anything I've plugged in was instantly recognized without a glitch. The unit is sturdy and almost over-built unlike many items that are mostly plastic and flimsy. This unit is bullet proof so far. Very delighted with it. 5
