Customer Reviews

Saved and Bundle A water softener company wanted $2,000 to replace my 18 year old iron filter... This $60 DuPont whole house filter did the trick with a small caveat... I have to change the filter every 90 days instead of once a year as stated in the DuPont specification sheet... but it only costs $10 so I m still way ahead 5It works great but it takes some effort! So far so good. Had these installed a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. At first I thought no way they hold up with the amount of sediment I get daily but so far it's doing the job. I doubt it will make it the advertised 6 months but if I get this kind of quality water for even 3 months I'll be ecstatic.Caution: There is a lot of assembly required. If you're not a handy person you should consult a local plumber. They will find this to be a fairly simple install and have it done in an hour or so.I happen to have some skills and I put them to use but one thing I didn't count on was there being NO mounting brackets. They were a ridiculous 25$ on Amazon or any other site I checked out. So I got some measurements and went to my work and made some out of .120 aluminum. If any of you know someone that works at a metal shop or fabricating garage they can make these for you in a jiffy with the scraps they got lying around.Very happy with this purchase so far. I'd recommend 5DuPont WFHD13001B heavy duty whole house water filter. I have now had this for a month and I am very pleased. It removes all the iron and sediment. My toilets are rust free! I read some complaints on this product but in many cases it is customer fail. One complaint is that the unit is difficult to unscrew when replacing the filter. A simple solution is to grease the threads on the male part and it comes right apart. I used marine grease. Also do not over tighten! Screw it together by hand until it feels tight and then use the wrench that is supplied and turn it 1/8 to 1/4 max. turn more. Be sure to apply silicon grease to the "O" ring before installing.Another complaint is that the inlet tends to crack. In my experience the only way to crack the inlet connections is to use way too much tape and/or to way over tighten. Remember it is plastic not metal and even though it is heavy plastic too much force might crack the inlet, but to do so would be a real DUH. I used two raps of tape along with paste and screwed the fittings in all the way to the bottom with no problems so if you crack the head you have to do something really over the top.Now about the filter that comes with it. For the average filtering needs it may be fine, but because of my iron problem being as bad as it is I did NOT use the DuPont WFHDC3001 filter cartridge that is supplied. Instead I ordered the DuPont WFHDC8001 carbon rap cartridge which is 5 micron and it works great. I am hoping to get at least 3 months out of a filter. 5Easy enough to install Works VERY well.Easy enough to install, though, there was some dripping leaks. To prevent this, use http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YA0YBW?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_38.This worked for me PERFECTLY.UPDATE***JUNE 21, 2016I use this on a private well.Still working; no leaks. I replace the filter (I use the Dupont carbon filter) every 3 nonths. What it filters out is DISGUSTING.My Teflon tape (see above) is still holding strong with no leaks.I remove the filter housing (bottom) and rinse it thoroughly with bleach/water mixture then relubricate the O-ring and threads with plumber's silicone paste.Still love it! 5Excellent filter for the money Had some pretty bad minerals coming in from my well system and this filter has stopped it. The minerals we're so bad I didn't know how long this filter would last but it's been a couple months and it's still going strong so if I had to change the element tommorow I'd be happy. I read allot of bad reviews on the threads not sealing. I had no issue at all. A bit of teflon tape and dont over tighten the fittings and you shouldn't either. This was a steal for around $25 very heavy duty construction. No it doesn't have a bracket, but with some ingenuity you can easily make one for a couple dollars. For the price, it's hard to complain. 5NIce housing, but no mounting bracket included. I bought this to filter large sediment particles. I wanted something with high water flow and filtered only large micron particles. I also ordered sharkbite fittings for the 1" NPT openings to hook into the pex line, and put aside for the weekend to complete my project. as I opened up the packaging, the directions suggested they highly recommend purchasing the optional mounting bracket. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed as I was diligent to make sure I had everything for my project, so I tried to figure out a way to fabricate something that would work. The design of the filter really does not permit a mounting option other than using the bracket. I am fairly certain that the engineers are aware of this (notice I don't say DuPont Engineers - more on this later), so why they didn't include the bracket that was necessary to the installation is a mystery to me.There are no screws included, nor is there a description of the type of screw that works, so even if I could figure out an acceptable way to mount it, I couldn't attach it to the housing. By the way, for those who have figured out a way to mount it without the bracket, the housing takes 5/16x1 bolts.I went to the big orange box store to see if they carried the bracket and I could finish my project, but alas, no bracket. They did offer to order it for me, for almost 20 bucks, but it wouldn't arrive for a week or so. I did check out their in stock filters, and to my surprise, they carried a different brand of the SAME FILTER HOUSING. It was white, not blue, but had the exact same specifications and even had the same air purge button. I mean, exactly - like it came of the very same mold (wink wink). And, drumroll please - it even included the mounting bracket!!Total price for the "orange" unit was a few dollars more the DuPont housing, but given that it included the necessary bracket, it ended up being fifteen bucks less than the DuPont housing with the bracket. Needless to say, I bought the "orange" unit and had it installed in about an hour. I will send the other back to Amazon, because Amazon's return policy is awesome. To cut off a long story, you probably ought not to purchase this without the bracket. The smarter move? Look for a different/complete solution. Finally - a note to DuPont Marketing. There is noting that bugs a DIY'r more than starting a project without all of the parts necessary to finish job. Please consider charging a few bucks more and including the bracket, its the only way to do it right. 3Filter works as expected I gave it 4 stars because it should come with a mounting bracket. I ordered the bracket, and the bracket should come with screws. It was a fairly easy install depending on how handy you are. I have copper pipping, so there was a little more work there. I wanted to add a bypass loop with this in case it failed, and for easy filter changes. The project took me about 5 hours. I couldn't find any 1" compression adapters like stated in their directions, so I ended up using a 1" copper sweat to male threaded fitting. Some mentioned how they needed to use a lot of plumbers tape. How much is a lot? 14 total wraps worked for me the first time.We have a private well, and this did almost eliminate the rotten egg smell from the hard water lines (very subtle now, I have to try to smell it). The smell is completely gone from the soft water lines. My next filter change will be with a Dupont Carbon 2 stage filter to hopefully completely eliminate the smell. To me, this filter was well worth the time and money to improve the quality of our water. I'm no longer worried about guests telling me my water smells. In addition, my appliances will last longer. 45/16 Lag screws and washers Filters are huge!! I still have 20inches to buy. I bought two to filter sediment starting outside the house. Connecting to 1 pex. The screws will need to be lag screws. I used 5/16 1 lag screws from Home Depot (LAO is item code in store). I also bought a separate bracket.I have yet to install. 5Best $$$ per gallons filtered, I love Amazon The ubiquitous whole house water filter. If you have the room, go with this big filter, even if a smaller filter will suit your needs. This one is the least $$$ per gallons filtered, has the most filter options, and best filter availability. A larger filter will let you go longer between filter changes.Click click delivered, with filter cartridge and wrench, for less than you can find one in a local store for. I love Amazon. 5Heavy duty water filter housing Did some research on multiple filters and found this was the largest and best for the price. Would be nice if it came with the bracket and screws for installation, but wasn t that big of a deal. I went with this unit vs one with a bypass valve on top because of less parts. My last unit that I had started leaking out of bypass valve which was an o ring that was not serviceable. This one has a pressure relief hat has a small o ring that is replaceable. I d purchase again if needed. 5
