Customer Reviews

Warning! This item has changed! Is now garbage! I purchased this item in 2013. It was awesome. Came in retail packaging, there was a chime option, and it was the perfect volume to serve as an alert. I just bought this again in 2018 to replace one that stopped working (other one still going strong) and it was completely different! The packaging was very poor, a strong chemical came out of the bag when I opened it (now dealing with the headache from it), and one of them came apart in my hand, just popped open. The old one sounded like a home alarm (which would hopefully scare away intruders). This one chirps like a crazed smoke alarm in desperate need of new batteries. All I can say is DO NOT BUY THIS, positive reviews must be from the older item, it is very obvious that what I received is a knock off, or a 'new model' that is really just cheaper to make and pure trash (which is where these went). 1Also works well to alert you when your child opens a door This product, the "Door/Window Entry Alarm with Magnetic Sensor, Pack of 2" is touted as being inexpensive alarms to "detect entry protecting home or office". While that's true, that's not why I use these; as noted above, we've found these very useful for letting us know when our little ones try to leave the house. My wife and I were originally given a few sets of "First Alarm" magnetic sensors as a baby gift. At about age 2-3, our children could reach the locks on our doors and could open the doors by themselves, not a good thing when you're trying to keep them safe. As we discovered, if you mount the sensors at about chin level, the children can't reach the alarm, so you can hear if they're trying to go outside to play without you. After several years, our "First Alarm" sensors wore out, and I found that I could no longer purchase them. However, these sensors are literally identical in every way, except they don't have a "First Alarm" sticker on them. (I suspect they are the same, just not branded as a "First Alarm" product anymore.) Below are my thoughts on these alarms. The alarm consists of two parts ... the sensor part, which has three settings (alarm, off, and chime), and a magnet part. Both have sticky tape on back, which you use to secure the two parts onto your door or window. The sticky tape is very sticky and will stay on your door/window for a long time (well over a year), although not forever. When mounting the two parts, you need to ensure that both parts are side-by-side, and that the gap between them is around 1/8th of an inch or so. Each sensor comes with three button batteries (all are needed), and they also last a long time, assuming moderate daily use. While you can replace the batteries, it's almost as cheap to buy a new unit. In my experience, the batteries and the sticky stuff on the back usually wear out at roughly the same time. When set to "chime", the sensor basically gives one two-tone ring, and serves to let you know your door has been opened. The "alarm" setting rings continuously until either the door/window is shut, or you change the setting to "off". The product description claims that at 3 feet distance, the alarm is 90 decibels loud, which "sounds" about right. Heh heh. If you want to use these as a poor-man's alarm system, depending on the size and layout of your house, they should be loud enough to quickly wake you up from an upstairs bedroom, but may not if you're a heavy sleeper.Overall, these would work well as a poor man's alarm system to let you know if someone is entering your house, but they work even better to let you know when a child is trying to go out. Five stars. 5Good Low Budget Alarm Device for Your Sliding Window or Door This works ok for the price. It sets off an annoying high pitch screech when it's breached or separated. However, the construction is very flimsy plastic. Take good care in handling it. It comes with self adhesive double sided tape to mount the transmitter and receiver in place. The on/off switch is not easily legible. The letters are not contrasted from the white of the casing. Very small, and very hard to read. One final comment, I bought 2 of these devices, and one worked great while the other one didn't. The batteries included were corroded. I had to scraped off the oxidation on the battery and device with a knife clean it with baking soda. I thought the quality control could be better.... check the batteries before shipping should not have been difficult because the packaging is not sealed. Overall, if you need a low-budget alarm to scare off intruders through your sliding window or screen door, this will be a good purchase. 3Work Well for Their Purpose This is a very simple alarm, definitely security theater rather than actual security. But as long as you understand what it is, it can be a great tool. For some reason, I had started getting jumpy while my partner was out of town and afraid I wouldn't wake up if there was a break-in (I am a heavy sleeper). When I am feeling like that, I turn on the alarms knowing they will *definitely* wake me up if the doors are opened (I haven't tested to see if jiggling is enough to break contact between the two sensors and set off the alarm). I also set them when we go on vacation, figuring the loud noise may at least alert the neighbors. The alarm is easy to install, it comes with sticky tape. They've been up about a year now and I haven't noticed any loosening. There are two choices for sounds. Both are extremely loud. 5Works perfectly I've gotten alarms that look very similarly to this at the dollar store but they're not the same thing. This one is very easy to line up. I marked the lines with a sharpie just to make sure then outlined it on the door and door jam with a pencil that was easy to erase later. It worked without any issues at all, it's plenty loud enough to hear anywhere in the house. It works fine on doors that open in or out and on doors that open from right to left or left to right. You just have to flip it around to adapt to whichever type of door you have. All of our doors have woodwork that is detailed so we installed ours on the hinge side rather than the side that has the door knob and it works perfectly. We have it on the bedroom door of a night wanderer who has issues controlling themselves around food and on my art studio door that has way too many (expensive) supplies that are far too tempting for kids to grab and use up. The price was well worth NOT having a Costco sized box of cereal eaten in one sitting at 3:00 a.m. or finding my $15 a piece markers lying around with the lids off, dried up and ruined. These are a great gift to give someone with toddlers or elderly to keep everyone safe. Since they're temporary and require no wiring and can easily be removed without a trace, they're perfect if someone is visiting, for a vacation home or hotel room as well. 5Great security system for cheap! I live alone in downtown Kansas City and often feel scared. I bought this alarm system and originally planned on setting it on the "chime" setting so every single time the door opened it would chime. Well the chime is way TOO loud for that. I would feel bad for my neighbors. The chime setting would be great if you owned a store or larger home, but for me and my small apartment the chime was just too much. The alarm on the other hand is great. I set it by flipping the switch every time I am in my apartment alone along with locking the door of course. My apartment is around 1,100 square feet and I can hear the alarm from anywhere in my apartment. I would suggest to this product to anyone that wants to feel a little bit more secure. I know that it does not alert any police if it went off, but it would alert your neighbors and wake you up if someone was breaking in. Plus, the person breaking in does not know what kind of alarm is going off so I am betting that they would leave right away once they heard the loud alarm. Love this product and am very very pleased with my purchase. 5They work okay I like that these are loud and deter my little one from leaving the premises unnoticed, but they do not fit doors well that have moulding around them. The doors you apply these to must be flush to the wall. 4Be Careful of the Seller *Update!* Bunker Hill Security Brand: (Sellers: "StuffKeithBought" and "Four Seasons Treasures")The alarms are exactly as pictured, and the advertised picture demonstrates exactly how they should look installed. To install them you simply peel off the sticker protecting the adhesive strip and put the bar side on the door or window frame and the alarm directly next to the bar side but on the actual door or window, then set the alarm to either the chime setting or the alarm setting. Once the bar and the alarm are separated from each other by opening the door or window the chime/alarm will sound. They would need to be installed on surfaces that are flush. The alarms are made of plastic that would not hold up well to outdoor use so if your intent is to use it for a pool door alarm, for example, it wouldn't be the best idea as rain/heat/etc. would clearly affect the product. The alarms take little button batteries which are inexpensive and have a decent battery life. Do note that the alarm is 90DP which is way too loud for someone living in an apartment/condo. We placed one on an interior door of a well insulated and fairly soundproof apartment and it could clearly be heard across the apartment, through a closed front door, and across a hall. While they do work exactly as advertised I do NOT recommend them for outdoor use, or anyone in an apartment/condo setting unless you are using it specifically as a replacement for a burglar alarm and are ok with it alerting you and all your neighbors.***Update: (Seller: "Happy Super Store")When I re-ordered these using the EXACT same link as the first two times, they came from seller "Happy Super Store" and were not the items pictured. They are similar alarms, however what was received were knock offs from Japan (they say Japan on the box and aren't written entirely in English) that are of noticeably lower quality. They go off even when the arrows are lined up perfectly, and they're much too quiet for the 90 decibels they are supposed to be. In addition to not working properly the one we actually attempted to install ripped right off the adhesive less than 10 minutes after putting it up. So much for at least trying to give the knock off ones a chance! The 4 star rating represents my original order(s) of actual Bunker Hill Security alarms. If I was going to rate the knock offs that arrived they would be a 1 star as they are not what I ordered, and not the item advertised in the listing and they do not work properly. The cheap knock offs are being returned. Be sure to check the seller!!! 4Battery Hazard for Children It was easy to install and the alarm is very loud. Getting it aligned correctly can take some time though. The worst part of this was the adhesive that is used. It is very weak and the device fell off the wall after about a week of use. It fell during the night and split open, releasing the tiny button battery. It was right there on the floor for my children to find. Luckily, I woke up before them and was able to throw it away before one of my kids swallowed the battery. Those batteries are easy to swallow and will burn through a child in a matter of hours. I will never buy or recommend this product. 2Works as advertised I bought these to help me keep my Autistic teenager from leaving the house without my knowing. He is allowed to go outside alone, but I just wanted to be aware that he was slipping out. You have a choice of three settings...Off, Chime, and Alarm. The noise is pretty loud so it can be heard in a large home. The alarm noise is very obnoxious so it should get your attention. The Chime noise is not as obnoxious, something you might put on the front door in a store maybe? The chime will stop even if the door is left open after about 3 chimes. The alarm is constant until the door is closed. If you are using this to help you with a disabled individual please note that it can be turned off if the person is tall enough. My son is 15 and can reach it. He has never turned it off but just be aware. These didn't work for me the way I had hoped but it was not due to failure of the product. I have 6 children and they are in and out of the house all day long so as any mom with a lot of household noise, I learned to tune it out which it turns out defeats the purpose. :) The price is not bad at all. 5
