Customer Reviews

DMT stone is the best...love it..Get one! Second purchase of the same exact bench diamond part. Works extremely well. You must remember not to push down too hard on your blade as you use this. Let the diamonds do the work. Very light pressure only. I had to get another one of these and another stand alone coarse just because I was used to using a stone and pushed down too hard. My old fine flat is now "extra fine" LOL.This product is the WAY TO GO when it comes to sharpening your kitchen blades, or pocket knives. Its worth every penny. I strongly recommend the DMT products. The cost may seem a bit high, but if you use light pressure and keep the flat wet, this part will last you for years if not decades. Get it! 5Quick and reliable way to get all your knives sharp. Purchased the Fine / Coarse DuoSharp about a year ago and it's all I use on my kitchen and fixed blade knives. I also bought DMT's extra fine stone which I finish off with a strop to get the hair splitting edge. The base is a smart, efficient design and it securely holds the diamond stones in place. The rubber feet keep the base from moving and 8" surface is ideal for large kitchen knives. Ever since I showed the wife how to maintain the edges, I haven't needed to use the coarse side of the stones for a while. Properly maintaining your knives is crucial.I have had friends that brought me completely dull knives and had to use the coarse side to help hone the edge profile quicker before I went to the finer grits.Spraying the diamond stones with a little water provided me with better results and also helps me keep the surface clean.Overall, I'm very happy with this set and I get quick, reliable results every time. Sharp knife = happy wife. 5Kitchen knife tool I've got about 10 sharpening stones, and this is the best so far. Its big enough for chef knives, as well as small blades like paring knives. I like a sharp knife, and this is doing the job. I had an electric sharpener that worked great, but I gave it to my daughter once I got this sharpener. 5 strokes on one side, 5 strokes on the other, and the knife is ready for use. I've only used the fine side on the sharpener, but I like that it has a coarse side just in case. It doesn't slide on the kitchen counter when used -- this is a good thing. I like it and am happy I bought it -- I"m kind of a tight wad with money, and at first I thought it was overpriced, but after using, I think it was priced OK. 5Great sharpener. It is super simple to use and ... Great sharpener. It is super simple to use and is incredibly flat. Just a little bit of water and the occasional wipe down to remove the leavings and you can sharpen forever. I used it with the Robert Larson 800-1800 Honing Guide to completely rework 4 old chisels and my block plane. The combination resulted in better than new tools. The only warning I'd give is that the "coarse" side is slow at removing a large amount of material. So reworking an entire face (like I had to do with the chisels and plane iron) will take some time and elbow grease. But it's a good workout. 5Very nice! DMT diamond plates are fantastic. I have the fine/super fine and just got the course/fine. They make very quick work of resharpening an edge. The fine/super fine are great for edge maintenance; about 10 swipes on so either side and a strop and your blade should be shaving sharp. The course is great for establishing a bevel. I also use these for sharpening plane irons and it does a fantastic job on those as well as knives. 5Excellent large surface sharpening stone. I had a smaller DMT sharpening stone for 10+ years but sharpening kitchen knives on it was a bit of a hassle, due to its small size. This larger sharpening stone with two different grits is a really economical and efficient tool. It will quickly remove metal down to the angle you are sharpening at and then after removing two plastic clips the stone comes loose can be flipped, locked back in place with the clips and the edge can be refined with the finer grit side. The large size allows for a large area of contact and allows you to work on a larger portion of a blade at a time. Plus, it is easier to keep the two pieces at a consistent angle when they are larger. Would definitely purchase. again. 5Coarse stone not-so This is a great tool. My only complaint is that DMT's sense of "coarse" isn't the same as mine. The coarse side of this stone is about the same as a medium India stone, and the "fine" side is a bit more abrasive than a washita stone. That makes this pair of stones useful for maintaing kitchen knives, once you have them in shape. If you have serious work to do, buy the Extra-coarse/Coarse and pair it with the Fine/Extra-fine stones. The base is well-designed and perfect addition. 4DMT Makes the Best Diamond Sharpening Stones I really, REALLY enjoy sharpening my knives on this. The Blue course / Red fine are really more like a medium and a medium fine. If I could have gone back I would have tried to get a Black (extra course) and Red (fine). The base works well and will stick to a table even if the table is covered in water from sharpening. (push the base into the ta+ble and move it around a bit. This particular stone with the holes in between the diamond impregnated steel is better for larger knives, and is not quite as good for chisels on a honing guide. The continuous diamond zone can be good for finish chisels but is harder to fully sharpen them quickly. After buying my first DMT stone, I bought 3 more and a portable one, and never went back to india stones or aluminum oxide, etc. 5Brilliant sharpening stone. I'm a furniture maker and use my chisels and planes quite a bit. I've used whetstones, oilstones, diamond sharpeners, etc. None of them have given me an edge as razor sharp and consistently perfect as this one, AND I can easily rinse it off with water when finished. I bought mine a few months ago and spent an entire day meticulously sharpening edges and flattening the soles of my handplanes, zero complaints and I'll probably add another grit selection in the future. 5Just remember it needs to be broken in before you ... Just remember it needs to be broken in before you can expect the grits to be accurate. Also, the coarse side is not as coarse as you would expect, if you want to remove a lot of material (to form a primary bevel for instance), get something coarser or use something else. Definitely designed for pre-finishing. 5
