Customer Reviews

Overpriced and Freezes FrequentlyUpdate 09/07/2018The camera freezes every few days, i.e. you can no longer log into camera via web interface and the camera stops recording/taking snapshots. Only a power off/on reset fixes it, until it freezes again. This basically makes the camera a worthless piece of junk, as you can not rely on it to record when needed. Btw, the camera is about 9 foot away from WIFI access point, so issue can not be "weak Wifi" signal, even with a "weak Wifi" signal, the camera should not just hang up - it should be able to recover and resume normal functionality. Latest firmware V1.06.1 is installed.------ original review -------------For the price this camera is just ok, nothing spectacular. For the money you can get far better cameras with 3..4 times the resolution, better night vision and more firmware options.Pros:- wide angle of view 180 degree, if that is what you need/want- decent night vision- supports dynamic DNS, but only via Dlink's own servers or DynDNSCons:- 180 degree view means heavy edge distortions in picture- HD means only 720p, not 1080p- can only record to SD card, email picture/video clip, or upload to ftp, no network storage (SMB, NAS) support- Uses mini USB plug for power supplyBought camera in July, had since then one instance where camera hang-up and stopped sending snapshots to ftp server. Had to reboot to fix.1Great CamerasI currently have 7 D-Link cameras (various models) on two different routers at two different locations. I have not had any issues at all setting up any of these cameras. I am perplexed at the number of reviews from people having trouble setting these up. It could not be easier. As for connectivity once setup, they are again, great! Are these extremely non-technical people setting these cameras up in their mansions, where they have a poor signal in the east-wing?Seriously, for the price, these cameras work great. The mydlink app also works as expected. My only suggestion for remote locations would be to power the camera through a Wemo switch in case you want to reboot it. At my one location we lose power often and the cameras don t always come back online properly. A power off then on of the Wemo gets the camera back online everytime.Lastly, the few times I did call D-Link support for some questions, they were fantastic. They listened, responded and cared about my concerns.5Don't buy the 960L HD's. They drop signal all the time. Software updates break the camera features.Update 20170801. The daylight outdoor view whiteout image issue is resolved through the website account camera Setup >> Image Setup >> disable the Anti Flicker feature. These cameras require a fairly strong wireless signal, ever since I added a wifi extended range booster to supplement my current main wifi unit, the cameras have been more reliable for connection persistence but still require power reboot sporadically. Thanks to the DLink customer support for helping with the Anti Flicker feature diagnosis.Update 20170614. I read another's negative post about these DCS-960L and chiming in. After a recent update, the cameras I use to monitor outdoors from being set inside a window now have the screen displays 'washed out' which means the image is not legible, looks like peering at the sun all the time. These DLink cameras although have nice features, they don't always work, drop signals (and have to be powered off/on to reconnect manually), and get software updates that make $100+ cameras worthless. I'm switching to a different, more reliable and robust brand especially for outdoor monitoring that can handle the bright/dark and has better ratings than these DLink. I abhor calling their support, it's like talking to a parrot that can't read, they just repeat back what you say and after about an hour of diagnosing they finally give up and ship a replacement. A waste of my valuable time and money.----I am revising my original post. I own 6 Dlink cameras of which 3 are these DCS-960L HD's. The 3 DCS-960L HD's are the most unreliable of the cameras as they frequently lose signal, must be powered off/on, and so they are of little use to me when I can't depend on them. DO NOT BUY THE DCS-960L. The other models I own are 2630, 936 and 5222 and their network connections persist at a much better reliability rate than the 960L.Revision 20161201 today 3 of my 6 Dlink cameras went offline. These are all the ones I use to monitor my pet. When arriving home, a nice little 'present' was dropped by my pet. During the time away, the pet set off the interior motion sensor alarm. It would have been nice to have at least one of the 3 cameras of the 6 I own working properly so when the alarm company called I would reliably have been able to tell them all was ok. Except for the 'present' on the floor, that is.So now I have to invest in a remote power switch so I can power off/on these cameras remote so they reset and reconnect. Why these Dlink cameras are so unreliable, I don't know. But don't rely on them in life or death situations.1Don't buy: stops working every few days with every internet interruption.I bought this camera since it has the expandable microSD card slot, with hopes that I could use it as a surveillance security camera that continually saved video footage. While it can be set up to do that, it won't do it reliably. I wish it would keep working and recording to the card even without an internet connection, but every few days it would drop the Wi-Fi signal and stop recording. On top of that, every few weeks there would be a software upgrade that would knock the thing offline, and reconfiguring everything to get it working again is a major pain in the butt. After going through two cameras due to connectivity issues, I gave up on this camera and just put it away. Its not worth my time to manually pull the thing off the wall, and bring it right next to my router to do the WiFi sync every few days just to keep it working. If you found this review helpful, please click the "helpful" button below. Thanks!1I would recommend initiating them using a computerI bought this camera to use in the house while I was on vacation. The 180-degree field of view meant that a single camera can cover almost the entire room. The app on my Windows 10 phone also worked well. It sent notifications reliably and allowed me to check out the live stream whenever I wanted. I also had it configured to email me snapshots whenever motion was detected. All that without a monthly fee, which was the main reason I chose the D-link system. One star deduction because of the firmware update issue I had. I opened to app to check in to my house and it prompted me that a firmware update was available. Without much thought, I clicked to allow it and I let it run. I get home hours later and found a non-responsive camera with the LED blinking red/green. I tried to restart, reset, etc. without success. Finally, called customer support and talked to Aiko (Badge ID AR004201). I didn't have my hopes up but she walked me through the process of manually updating the firmware. More than 30 minutes later, the camera is back up and working. Beware firmware upgrades. I would recommend initiating them using a computer.4Great Technical Help! This is my second purchase; I returned the first one because I couldn't set it up with my Samsung Galaxy. I kept getting "failed, retry or reset camera" - I spent a lot of time trying to get it setup. I ended up calling DLink and spoke to a technician who was unable to help me. It was frustrating. I did order another one and spent a long time setting it up and then had no audio and the video was so bad I could hardly see anything. I was so lucky today; I called DLink and got the most fantastic technician, Briagan #AR004214. He spent a lot of time walking me through different options to fix the issue and then remotely took over my computer, upgraded the firmware, etc. and I now have a perfectly working camera. I can't say enough about Briagan's technical knowledge and patience! He was absolutely wonderful!!!!! I gave it 4 stars because of all the trouble I had with the first one, but it's a great camera, thanks to my great technician!4Useless with terrible crashing dlink lite app setup procedureThis camera does not have a windows setup wizard. Can only set this camera up through an android or iphone device. This is because there is only an app you must download to run the setup. Your mobile device must be capable of connecting to you home wi-fi (no problem for me) but the app crashes when trying to setup the account and remote access. Ultimately rendering the product useless. There seems to be a critical flaw in using this setup. There should be more than one way to access and set this product up than a mobile app. I caution anyone considering the DCS-960L that even though the pretty marketing on the functionality of the the hardware is a draw to purchasing, I could get the same out of a rock right now. D-link website has poor access to customer support and product FAQ, videos, or other general guides on this specific model. Only way to gain access to customer support was to send them an email....that is terrible. Well I'm off my soap box and by the start of the work week and no response from the email customer service method and I will be returning this useless camera. Finally got it to work. While on the Local tab (in the App) I tapped on the cloud icon next to the recognized camera. This was not very intuitive, kind of a lucky that I tapped the tiny blue cloud. This link sent me to a form to set up online account. This was the only area that I saw that led to setting up an online account. Well by setting this account up and verifying with email I was able to then use the remote function of the app. This process still is not in a guided setup online, in the app, or in FAQ on the D-Link website. BTW I've been on the phone for about 1hr and I'm about to hang up b/c I'm sick of hearing (hold & waiting) automated messages about other products. Well its a wonder support line is busy...hmmm write some support info on the support site online that is accurate and up to date!1Garbage and waste of moneyI been a user of d-link cameras for some time and notice there products have gotten worse over time. (A reason I am replacing them all with a different brand now) The 960L was far the worse camera I have ever had.First off the picture was nice and set up was easy, but that is where the pros stop.So when I first got the camera it would drop signal all the time. I was hoping this was going to be solved by the updates. Unfortunately the updates just made things worse. I had two of these cameras and both did the same thing. So I know it wasn t just a single camera issue l, but a issue with the design and software.Internal software was the worse I seen on a d-link. I know how to change all the advance settings on d-links and this camera was the worst. I couldn t ever get it to send more then one picture on a motion detect. I talked hours with their customer service trying to figure out why, and even they gave up. Though their version of trying to fix the issue is telling me to do the same things I tried over and over. The night mode was worthless and I never seen a camera so bad.So if you want what will become a paper weight, buy this camera, otherwise just stay away from it. I can t even recommend d-link cameras anymore because they seem to just lag behind the compention when it comes to features. Much better brands out there for the same price or a tad more.1The second was not any better. I spent 3+ hours on tech support trying ... I already owned a Dlink camera and wanted to buy another so I could add the second camera to the phone ap. I had forgot how difficult the first camera was to link to the software. The second was not any better. I spent 3+ hours on tech support trying to resolve the issue over 3 days. Tech support is in India and we had bad phone connections the first day. I finally gave up and decided I would call back another time. VOIP problems. Once the unit was finally connected it works great. If I had to to do all over again. I might try a different camera hoping for easier connection process.UPDATE April 2, 2018. At least 50% of the time the camera doesn't work. I have to unplug it all the time so it will boot up and work. The older Non HD camera works all the time. DON'T BUY D-Link Cameras. I wish I could return it but it is past the return window. 1Stops working after 1-2 months of use After about a month of use the recording stopped working, the video/live settings are washed out (even after factory reset) and it keeps making a weird clicking noise on the live view. It happened quickly after I set it up, but thought maybe it was just a mishap, but I should have just returned it right then and there. I've had to reset this camera at least 3 times. This item is not what I expected it to be in terms of quality and usability. It's worthless and I'm very disappointed in this item and purchase. I've added a photo with no adjustment to brightness, contrast, or hue. 1Would be zero stars if that was an optionConstant problems connecting to the wifi network and staying connected. I even placed a 5GHz access point a few feet away from one of the two 960 cameras and it will not consistently keep connection. Sent both back to DLink after hours of troubleshooting. The brand new ones sent back have the same issues. Could it be wifi interference? I suppose, but why are the other non-960 cameras much more stable? Should have returned inside the thirty day return period for my money back.1Great camera. Read if using in window looking out.Bought this to monitor my front driveway. The camera is mounted inside my garage window- looking out.The camera set up very easily. Scanned the QR code and used WPS on router. Had it up and running in less than 2 minutes. My only complaint about the camera is that there are no settings to turn off the IR (infrared) lights. With the way I'm trying to use the camera (inside window looking out) the IR lights just reflect back on the camera rendering it useless in my case. So I had to get creative because aside from that, I like the camera and it's a good value. So I used electrical tape to cover up the IR lights. Works great for my use now.4
