Customer Reviews

Culligan SW-2 3/4 inch spanner wrench I installed this as part of a set which I assembled in an attempt to prevent the buildup of sediment at my washing machine. I am on city water, but it is VERY hard water and I found that I was cleaning out the strainer about once every few weeks. Since installing these items, I have yet to have any issues! The following has been installed for roughly 6 months: Culligan HF-150A 3/4-Inch Whole House Sediment Water Filter, Culligan S1A Level 2 20 Micron Sediment Replacement Cartridge 2 Pack, Culligan SW-2 3/4-Inch Housing Spanner Wrench, Culligan UB-1 Mounting Bracket with Screws. I recommend purchasing all these items for an application such as mine. 5If you broke your previous wrench, Do NOT buy this. This is the third plastic wrench I broke. I tried various brands - they all seem to be identical- probably made in the same mold... I keep breaking them. I have two suggestions;1) use two plastic wrenches at once - tape the handles together - which I have yet to try.2) buy a metal (steel) wrench you can find online or at Amazon if you search for steel wrench SW-2 water filter.I found the metal one after I had ordered another plastic one so I am going to try two wrenches working together since I am already committed to buying another to go with the spare I already have.Greg 2It will break I broke two of these before I realized there was a metal alternative. It is flimsy plastic and will only work on lightly tightened filters.I suggest you buy this onehttps://amzn.to/2TVswXG 2It works, but it's not very strong Hi.I bought one of these and then bought 3 more to be safe because the first one broke, in my opinion, way too easily! The cap on my water filter is on tight. Very tight. I didn't know at that time that buy being very liberal with vasoline on the threads of the filter cap, makes the cap go on easier, come off easier and it makes for a nice seal on the filter housing. So, the cap was on pretty tight and i did have to use some muscle to get it off, but i did NOT expect that this thing would crack in the front. Not the handle, but the rounded side. So i had to order a few more before i could change my filter. My second one has held up better than the first. I've had several filter changes and it's not broke yet. I do have 2 more in reserve though, just in case.I give this 4 stars for durability vs. 5 starts because of how easily that first one broke.I have and would, buy this again. Thanks 4Economical and works I got this for an old whole house filter system (ametek brand but it's a standard size housing/filter). My dad had been using an adjustable wrench. When he got sick it took both of us to try and get the stupid housing off. I ordered this (culligan sw-2a) and used it yesterday, and was able to change the filter without help. It's plastic and not very sturdy but you need to keep it towards the very top of the housing. I had to apply a lot of pressure to unscrew the plastic housing and to put it back on and this worked fine. It sure beat trying to use an adjustable wrench which really just tears the plastic up. 4Fits and makes.... ...removing whole house filter easy. I had been using an oil filter pliers and this is way better. Wish I'd found it sooner... 4Perfect! Use teflon tape and it's even easier! Just what I needed to get my water filter changed! I don't know where the original wrench went but this one works perfectly. Wrapping the threads of the filter case with teflon tape makes the whole process infinitely easier for future changes! 5Junk stay away from this "toy"! Well.upon trying to use this wrench the third time it split!! Don't buy this it IS JUNK! Shame on Culigan sales for selling crap! This is a one time use pretty much then throw it away! If I could give it half a star I would only because it worked twice! 1Broke two so far I've been through two of these so far. If you need one of these, it's because your filter is on too tight to remove by hand. That means you'll need to apply some force with this wrench, but they are made from flimsy plastic so they end up breaking.Price-wise, these are inexpensive enough that breaking one isn't the end of the world, but it gets annoying having to deal with inconvenience of your wrench breaking as you are trying to change the filter and then having to wait for a replacement to arrive. I guess I could but a stack of these to keep around as they break, but I hate to throw my money at a poorly made product.I ended up grabbing a strap wrench from my tool box when the Culligan wrench broke today (while I was applying very little force) and the strap wrench worked great. I'd recommend grabbing one of those instead, which you may find useful in the future for other things around the house, or pick up one of the metal housing wrenches you can find on Amazon, which cost a bit more but look like they will get the job done for years and year. 1Works great!!! After years of use, it was practically impossible to loosen the sump from the cap...(plastic canister that holds filter)...unfortunately, my filtering system did not come with a wrench...I was pleased to find one that would fit an older model...the price was good and I reviewed it quickly...it was just what I needed!!!now changing filters is a breeze...I highly recommend this product :-) 5
