Customer Reviews

You can t go wrong with Scheffield steel. Works exactly as they should. As far as a furniture scraper goes I really like this set a lot. On a sidenote it s a damn shame that Erwin bought marples. I still have a set of marples that are made with Scheffield steel. 5Use them often - great tool! Great tool - wish I bought this earlier - good for glued up panels, scraping other materials for light material/finish removal in tight places, removing saw marks, etc. 5Best tool to have in your tool boxBest tool to have in your tool box. Use it all the time and hope it doesn't get dull. For me, it eliminates sanding and help remove dried glue from my work piece. My first one I own is another brand but it is over 20 years old and still fairly sharp but it's always good to have more than 2 of every tools you own.5Will not disappoint! Awesome product! These work fantastic. After watching on YouTube a video of how to re-finish a wooden countertop, I ordered these. Great price and work terrific. Used them most recently on my kitchen windowsill and along with a detail sander, stain and three coats of poly, it came out looking new. Easy to use and a great purchase. Just a tip: Go to YouTube and watch the video of how to use these as it's most helpful. The gentleman who does this is in England (just so you get the right video)!5Pretty good scrapers I had never owned card scrapers before, but knew if I was going to get more serious with my work, I would have to. It took a little while to set up (since I didn't know exactly what I was doing) but once I got it going, they work fantastic. Only used them a handful of times, but so far so good. 5perfectUnhappy with tung oil finish I applied on a new walnut table. Needed a new scraper, came as a set, which means less sharpening per job. They worked perfectly, removing razor thin curls of finish and leaving the walnut even smoother. Research on line how to use them, they are very useful5Just wowI initially did not like this scraper as I was not able to obtain an edge sharp enough for getting whispy shavings but only produced dust using a variety of sharpening techniques. I actually ordered and was using some blue colored scrapers for a while with decent results until I came back and revisited these with a slightly different approach. I will be using these exclusively now.Because the steel in these is so much harder than other scrapers, you really have to burnish hem with a lot of force. During bunishing, I moved my shoulders inward to transfer my upper body weight to really push down on the card and roll over the edge. I mean, I really applied some force. This gave me excellent results and an edge that also lasts. For those interested, my sharpening process consists of filing the old bur off the edges until they are flush, followed by filing the top completely flat, and then lightly flattening the sides again with the file. I then burnish perpendicular to the edge, then 5-10 off on each side with as much force as I possibly can. I didn't find it necessary to use a stone on these blades before burnishing but that's me.Edit: adding a picture of some massive planer like shavings I am getting from a walnut tabletop.5Good to haveI bought this to replace various knives, files and other scrapers not as nice. This haas a keen edge that scrapes flat without damage and gives a good smooth finish. Every shop should have one.5Wow!So first wood scraper, and I was truly amazed at what they did to some oak I was working on. Superior finish when done, very comfortable to work with, and made me want to move to the next project as soon as I could to get the chance to use them again!5Works wonderfully, only received one scraper though. The tool works wonderfully, it it super helpful with getting edges just right. Definitely an essential woodworking tool. The reason I docked two stars is that my order only came with 1 scraper, not 2 as advertised. I've seen multiple low feedback scores on the seller's (health and more) profile where people complained of only getting 1 scraper. I'd be cautious ordering from them.3Nice ScrapersPriced right and embossed with the logo like other Sheffield tools. These are thicker and stiffer than other's I've used, seem a bit harder too but took a hook just fine. They are pretty stout so if you are looking for one you can bend in a pretty good arc, this probably wont be the one.5Game ChangerSo, I had never heard of a card scrapper before but stumbled across the concept while researching how to remove chatter from a belt sander. I'm working on building myself a custom desk for my studio and wanted the exterior facing surfaces to be flawless. These are essentially 11ga. steel sheet rectangles that have a small "hook" on the intersecting planes of each edge. The concept is you push these away from you and get super fine shavings leaving your piece ultra smooth and glossy. View some online videos to see how it works.I was very sceptical of them but have it a try. And they work awesome! My stock is white. In about 45 minutes I reduced about 2/3 of the chatter before my thumbs cried for mercy. I will have to finish up next weekend. This is way better than sanding and having to wear eye protection, a mask and ear protection. I found it to be rather relaxing. Now, you do have to "sharpen" them often, but I was pretty successful using a crappy file I had. The seller even sent me a PDF via email with sharpening instructions. I never got mine super sharp, but it was good enough. I also got mostly super thick dust vs. very fine curls, but it didn't bother me. Got the job done!Totally recommend these for every woodworker.5Way too hard for a card scraperUnless you're the Incredible Hulk/Hogan, these are WAY too hardened for proper scraping. If you use a Bahco .060 or even .080 you'll see the flexibility is key to using a card scraper correctly. I wish these weren't so hard because the size is great and I wanted extras so when one got hot, I could switch out and keep working - however, these just won't do. The thickness is completely misleading: they are many times less flexible than other brands' THICKER cards. At .030 (on digital calipers) they are harder to flex than the .080 Bahco. So, if you're new to card scrapers these are NOT the standard and can put you off to the wonderful world of fine finishing. Get a Bahco .060, it's the best intro scraper. Also the Clifton variety 4-pack of .010 .025 cards is a great place to start.2
