Customer Reviews

Three Starsok 3An okay read............Canadian Meds is a believable book and I think that is why I read the whole thing. It gets close to having a slightly exciting plot, but that is about it. I will say that it does make you think about whether it would be worth the risk to get your drugs through a internet pharmacies. Not the best book I've read and it took me a while to get through it, but I did and like I said, it makes you think. 3So many reasons it is terribleI really thought Canadian Meds by John Moynihan would get better. I read the whole thing. It didn t. The premise is good. The CEO and CMO of an internet drug company based in Canada cook up a plan to sell fake pills in the place of the real thing in order to pad their pockets and get rich. The book might have been good in the hands of a better author. As it is, it is pretty terrible.First, the language. It is completely unnecessary. I don t mind when books have an occasional swear word here and there. It seemed like a lot of the cussing in this one was for shock value. Second, the incredible amount of sex. Again, nearly all of it is completely unnecessary. Some is needed since one of the fake drugs is Erecta (for erectile dysfunction). The euphemisms and descriptions, though, were all ridiculous. Third, the characters. They are all flat and you just don t care about them. The dialogue sounds like someone talking to themselves. None of the characters had their own voice. Fourth, the womanizing. Pretty much every man in the book is getting old (at 50!), out of shape, etc. Every woman is gorgeous. Every man apparently wants nothing more than to hop into bed with these gorgeous women and eye them like they are pieces of meat. Fifth, incredibly predictable. Nothing is a surprise. Everything that happens (and it happens slowly) is expected. Sixth, the ending. The ending is totally stupid and missing something. After learning the stories of several characters, suddenly they are just gone and it s all about the CEO. His story is wrapped up, but the others are not.Don t waste your time on Canadian Meds. Even free it s not worth it. 1Slow start, good middle, end???I almost stopped reading it because of the slow start but it got interesting in due time. I enjoyed the multiple storylines, not too many to be confusing. The end or lack thereof almost seems like the author did not finish the story. If there was more resolution to some of the storylines I would have rated it better. Its almost like there the last 5% of the novel is missing?? 3Epic FailThis novel could have been good. But the editing was poor, the writing was poor, and the characterizations and dialogue were stilted. The premise is a good one, substitution of chemicals other than what is called for to make the real drug in order to save money by unscrupulous Chinese drug manufacturers and whole sale distributors. Only, the doctors involved in this practice were little more than comic book evil characters with no redeeming values. The writing came off as so amateurish and the lack of editing of the (not so) "finished" product bolstered the notion that this stinker went straight from John Moynihan's computer to my kindle without so much as a a pit stop for revision and editing.Be warned if this comes free again--Sometimes you get what you paid for, and this book is the perfect example of that. 1perfect beach readThis is a quick page turner. It is entertaining, and a unique plot; however, you know can easily determine where it is going. I was more tense from the realization that this is possibly happening than the tension/drama in the novel. All in all it was a decent read, not a life changer or thought provoker. 3Entertaining, but ...I read this in one sitting, and did enjoy the book, with caveats.First, the author is a very good and descriptive writer, with an easy to read, enjoyable style. The premise of the book is interesting, and made me wonder about the facts regarding mail order pharmaceuticals (not necessarily from Canada though). On the downside: while in context with the subject of ED drugs, a few sex scenes (well written as they are) do not detract in the least from the book. However, there are so many of them, they get in the way of the storyline. Ditto with the foul language. This is a book that could easily have skipped the foul language without losing anything. Sadly these two items may keep some people who would otherwise enjoy the book, from reading it.My biggest peeve however had to do with the fact most of the book is set in Canada, but does not portray Canadian culture, reality, worldview, or laws accurately. Not even close. (I am an American who spends half my time in Canada).A professional editor (not merely proofreader, but a full editor) could have helped the author take this book from the 3 stars I gave it, to 4.5 or 5 stars.Still .. it is worth the read, esp. for the e-book price of free. 3good idea poor jobThis book had a good idea and I had hopes for it but I only made it about 1/3 of the way through. It just could not hold my interest for various reasons I just could not finish it. I think if it was edited and redone would be very good. I go through a lot of books but this one just gets deleated for now. If they rework it I would definitely try it again. 2entertaining enoughThis is not a book that will tax the brain cells too much, so can be classed as just a good work of fiction. Not overly complex with plot, characterisation or technical detail. The subject matter was an interesting choice, and will cause more than a few pauses for thought at what is perhaps going on all the time with regards the online selling of drugs. You can easily believe this could go on - without us knowing about it.The minor complaints (and they are minor - I want to reiterate that I did enjoy this and would recommend it):** He did not deserve to get away with it, but I fully understand this is what would have happened in real life.** A few more pages as follow up so we knew what happened to the other characters, particularly Carol and Julie.** Some formatting issues with a few pages but not enough to detract from the main storyline. 4Canadian Meds = Story interruptus!Canadian Meds by John Moynihan suffers from story-interruptus! What was an interesting novel just goes limp and leaves the reader feeling frustrated and unfulfilled at the end. It's a real shame, because it has so much potential! I could easily see it being adapted as a tv show or movie if the story wrapped up better. 2
