Customer Reviews

Solid and quiet Prior to purchasing this I used a cradle that worked okay but rattled like a maraca if there was nothing in it, which annoyed me greatly. Unfortunately no one seems to review whether or not these things are quiet so it was tough to buy a replacement. Well, I can definitely say that this thing is quiet and feels quite solid. In fact, when the phone vibrates, it resonates to the windshield, car, etc.Another complaint of my old cradle was it had a long bendy arm (one which can be flexed in any position) that made it shake quite a bit. With a phone in it, it was not steady. I took a shot with this cradle because it didn't have this bendy arm and instead had a rigid adjustable arm that was shorter. This change made a huge difference in the steadiness of my phone in the cradle. The gripping mechanism is actually quite nice and I like that it came with the extended tabs. I used the extended tabs in the bottom and put one tab in the top because my phone has a button on the top right of it, and an audio port on the top left. The extra stress on the solo tab my be bad for it, but it came with 4 of those smaller tabs so I can replace it with one of the extra 3 that I have quite easily. The grip on my phone is quite firm and I have no problem fitting the phone in the cradle. I definitely do not have any fears that it will slip out. Also, because of the customizability of it, all ports and buttons are easily accessible. I usually have nothing plugged into it in the cradle because I have bluetooth audio in my car, but having all of the options available, and being able to charge if needed, is quite nice.My only complaint is while I did like the arm being shorter, it seems to be a little too short. I will have to see if I can find a mounting point and position that doesn't force me to reach for my phone so much.It did take a little effort to get everything tightened down so it didn't move around when inserting the phone, but it is definitely possible.Phone is a HTC Droid Incredible 2. 4Arkon Car Mount ROCKs!! I recently bought the Arkon SM514 Slim Grip for my HTC G2, and couldn't be happier. The suction cup is amazing, and stick to many surfaces, where other dock sould not.I use this dock in my MINI Cooper S, which is a bit of a harsh ride, and the phone vibrates very little, but is still veryy legible and functional.I grip is very good, and I always use it on horizontal position (clips to the side not top and bottom) and the phone has never come loose, nor fallen out, but still have the ability to slide the screnn to access the keyboard at a light if I need to.I have been using it for about 2 weeks, and I am very satified with the product. Would highly recommned it.========================================================================================EDIT: So it's been about 3.5 months since I bought the mount, and in the past few days it started falling off the windshield. Today I picked it up to put it back and noticed the suction cup piece was broken were the arm connects to it. I will contact Arkon, and post update.========================================================================================EDIT 2: I contacted Arkon, and their Customer Service was fantastic. I had exceeded the 90 days warranty by 10 days, but on the spot they offered to send out a replacement base. It should arrive shortly. Great CS!!!!========================================================================================EDIT3: I received a replacement mount in the mail a few days after contacting CS. Very pleased with company and device! 5Does the Job Bought to hold my Thunderbolt in a pickup. I have it suctioned to a beanbag type mount. All in all it does the job of holding the cell phone in a way that I can see it as I'm using the cell for navigation with this. I found that the legs (you get 4 short ones as in the photo and 2 longer ones for large phones (like the Thunderbolt) do not fit very tightly in their slots. The good part is that you can move the legs left and right so they don't affect any buttons. The bad part is that if you don't have a phone in the holder, the legs just fall out. I put small pieces of tape on the connection part of the legs to wedge them in and that seems to help. It has held my phone securely while driving over some fairly rough roads and expanded large enough to hold the Thunderbolt while in a case. 4Good item, great price This product is pretty cheap and does the job well. It will hold a phone of many sizes (although, cases are a problem, and max size is small compared to galaxy nexus, etc. I have a Nexus S, so it worked for me, best without my case).Good: cheap, quick, dependable.Bad: probably wont fit dashboard. I got it thinking i'll attach it to my dashboard, not my window. unless your dashboard is really flat it still won't fit (I thought it would, didn't, still good on the window though.). If you use a large case, your phone might fall out of the product. Only in really thick case examples is it really a problem though.overall I think this is one of the best universal mounts you can get for the price. Only reason it isn't 5 stars is because my case won't fit it well, as long as your case is pretty minimal, you are fine though. 4Secure hold, but insertion/removal not ideal This is a great mount with minor drawbacks. The suction cup mounts firmly on my windshield, and the spring loaded grip provides more than adequate force to hold the phone in place. The adjustable clips are nice so that the mount's fingers do not interfere with the power button on the top of my G2. The overall assembly is slightly flexible, so that the phone does not experience any hard knocks on rough roads. The only thing I dislike about this mount is that its universal positioning joints cannot be tightened such that they do not slip when inserting the phone, even when following the instructions and trying to hold the mount with your other hand.A related issue that isn't so obvious: some phones (such as the G2) have static grounding issues when they are not held in the hand that affect the capacitive touch screen response. When the phone is secured in this mount, it is isolated and at least for me, the touch screen will not respond unless the phone is plugged into my charger. Thus it is not possible to have truly "wireless" operation, so you need to plan your mounting locationin proximity to power accordingly if your phone also has grounding issues. 4[Was] Great for G2 Suctioned this to my windshield months ago and it hasn't started to show signs of coming loose yet. The positioning joint is free-rotating so you can adjust it without loosening a screw and does a good job holding its position after you put your phone in, but I do find that I have to adjust it every time I put my phone in.EDIT: Right around 6 months after we bought this product, the one in my husband's car and the one in mine both broke in the same location. Don't have another holder to recommend, but if you support the back when putting your phone in, you might get this to last longer than 6 months. The failure point is the plastic below the suction cup on the left side due to stress from the hinge point when pressing down on the lower feet to fit the phone in the holder. 3Best mount I've had so far I bought this mount to replace one of the flexi-snake type that clamps from the sides. I must say that this is a great deal of an improvement.Pros:-Strong suction cup-Solid construction-pivots joint lock down well so the phone can't change its position on its own- Spring loaded clamps hold well, even with the phone in landscape-the arms (or fingers) of the clamps can be adjusted greatly to acommodate a huge variety of devices (I've had my ipod in there with headphones and charging cable)-Very fast to get the devices in an our of the clamp-comes with two "over-sized" fingers for a variety of devices (though so far I've no use of them-the optional base comes with adhesive pad and stick great, allows for me to keep the phone when I'm using it as a gps in sight without being in the windshield field of viewcons-honestly, this isn't really one but maybe it is for some people, the reach on this thing is like 6 inches. Not much, but I think it's the perfect size. This is a really great clamp and I am so happy with it. Really works great for so many things. A great buy, not something I'm ever likely to regret. 5Great Product Overall I've used this mount for almost a couple years now, and I've really been impressed with how securely it attaches to the windshield!! It will stay intact for months... it will periodically fall off during winter months when the car is not garaged. This mount holds the phone very tight with practically no phone movement.- my wife's mount has a much longer arm and the phone constantly shakes. A plus is the "feet" that extend out and grab the phone, they can slide from side to side. This came in handy a few times when my Bluetooth flaked out on me and I had to use the backup corded headset. I was able to reposition the "feet" to make the slot for the cable plug accessible. Two downsides. (1) although the phone is held tightly and does not shake, it takes two hands to put the phone into the mount (a phone can be put into my wife's mount with one hand), and (2) if I needed to take a pic or video of traffic or accident ahead, I cannot because the camera is covered by the backside of the mount (again, with my wife's mount this can be done. Not a big issue and not a show stopper as I've had the need only a few times.Given the pros and cons, I would definitely recommend this mount. I'm very pleased with it. 4It WORKS as Advertised and Looks Good Doing it I can not remember how I discovered this online but I am glad I did.It is easy to install and comes with 2 ways to install it (you can suction it to the windshield or you can mount it to the dash board). I appreciated those different options.I have only had this for a couple weeks now, so I was reluctant to give it 5 stars. I didnt wanna jinx myself and have it fall down a couple days from now. I use it to hold my Tmobile G2 phone. It could also be used to hold many other devices that are about the same size.Buy it. There is also a youtube video that shows you how it worked. I am mentioning this video because it was helpful in my decision to purchase it. 4Reccomended, with caveats This mount came in an unmarked package with the bracket, dashboard mount, suction cup, alcohol pad and instructions. This product did not come in it's advertised "retail packaging," but was new and never used. The arm that connects to the phone bracket is notched and can be tightened to secure the arm in place. Both the mount and the arm are made of metal and will likely not wear out during the use of this product. Installing the product was beyond easy and the plate has a way to feed your charger cord so that it remains out of the way.Inserting and removing the phone from the mount is not as easy as I'd like. The ball joint that holds the phone bracket is not as snug as I'd like it to be; when attempting to insert the phone, the mounting plate will move out of position and require readjustment after inserting your phone. In addition, while driving the plate as a tendency to move around a little bit; not enough for me to consider it a defective product, but I figure that this will ultimately be a point of failure over time that will warrant it's replacement. The plastic plate and cup that holds the arm to the plate are both made of plastic, unlike the ball and arm which are made of metal. In addition, the instructions aren't as clear as I would like; there were 3 sets of "fingers" to hold the phone; with two looking the same and one pair that were longer than the others. The instructions made no mention of this third pair; I figured it was for larger phones and am currently using them for my Nexus S. Without using them, I would have to extend the bracket to near maximum length in order to hold my phone. The arms also obstruct the 3.5mm TRS connector on the bottom of my phone. I use a bluetooth connection to interface with my car so this is not a problem for me, but it would have been in my previous vehicle which had an auxilary in plug on my radio's faceplate. I also wish the device had wings on the side to better secure my phone; or at least to help me level it. 3
