Customer Reviews

Works great! It's easy to setup. You tell it what time to turn on and off. Its that simple. It has an override button - If it turns off as you've set it, but for whatever reason you want it on, you can push override button to turn on and off without having to change timer settings.I've been using this on an aquarium setup for about a year. I leave the heaters and filter running 24/7. I have lights, uv sterilizer and bubbler pump plugged into this timer. They shut off at night and come on in the morning. It's great! One less thing I have to mess with before work and bed. 5Strobe Light Effect I bought this for one of my fish tanks to automatically turn on and off the lights. The programming wasn't difficult and I have not experienced any resets. But the reason for 3 stars is that I think my unit may be defective as it seems to cause an intermittent power surge which causes the tank lights to momentarily blink on every 10 seconds or so when in the "off" mode. It doesn't the power the lights all the way on but rather a smaller surge similar to a strobe light. It's not terribly noticeable when house lights are on but when everything is dark at night it's very distracting. I have not seen this in other comments which is why I believe this just may be a defect with my unit. 3Very good surge protectors Very good surge protectors. Had many sudden, power outages, and so far, no damage has occurred to printers, computers, laptops. These have timers on them, which you can program to have the surge protector go off automatically. I find this very handy, especially when I leave the office for the day and if I forget to turn off the monitor, the programmed surge protector goes off at the specified time, and so does everything else. Users need to program the current Time and Day first, so all the timed schedules that you input thereafter, will fall into place. In the right, bottom corner of the screen, there is a P for p.m., or an A for a.m...it is really tiny, so have a magnifying glass handy. The top shows the Day for the week (i.e., MO for Monday, TU for Tuesday, etc.)., the far left side shows you ON or OFF. When setting the clock (Time), especially the minutes, you need to scroll through one minute at a time...I haven't found a way to go through 15 min. intervals anyway. There are 6 outlets, and yes, you can program each one differently. You will set the timer for each outlet pretty much the same way you did to set the current Time and Day, the difference is that, instead of pressing the TIME button, you will press the TIMER button. EAch time you press the Timer button, you will see a number to the left...this indicates the numher of the outlet you are programming...if you see the number 1, then you are programming the 1st outlet, if you see the number 2, then you are programming the 2nd outlet, etc. To the right of the number is either an "ON" or "OFF". Again, it's very tiny, and barely visible, but it's there. This tells you when you want to turn the particular outlet on or off. For example, if I see "ON" next to the number 1, and I input the time 6:00 a.m., then that particular outlet will power on at 6:00 am. I can then program this same outlet to power "OFF" at whatever time I want. 5Sometimes more really is more. I have a few plants at work and, unfortunately, am not near a window. (Yay for cubicle mazes.) So I have some LED grow lights to help my plants along. I was looking at single and dual socket timers to make my life easier, and to help my plants on weekends. Then I saw this surge protector power strip with a timer for LESS than many of the timers I was looking at! It works beautifully AND it's safer AND you have far more timed outlets to use!The instructions kind of suck however. What was especially confusing until I figured it out, is that the timer only seems to turn things on or off AT the time specified. So if the time is, say, 6:50am when you're programming the timer to turn on at 7am, it'll turn on for you as expected. BUT if the time is, say, 7:10am when you're programming the timer to turn on at 7am, it won't turn on for almost another 24 hours when it FINALLY gets around to 7am again. As a computer programmer, I find that logic pretty poor in design. HOWEVER, knowing that bad logic, to fix it, after you're done programming your timers, set the clock time to 1 minute before your timer would go on, let it go on naturally, and then fix the time to be correct again. Works like a charm. In theory I think you might even be able to use the override button instead of resetting the clock. But the documentation was unclear if doing that would be a permanent override (forever ignoring the timers), or just a temporary override (so that the next timer-state-change would cancel the override). Not sure. Wasn't worth the effort to test and find out after having already solved the problem by changing the clock. But it might be helpful to someone setting theirs up for the first time to try.The one thing that baffles me about this device however is why there are so many programmable timers when they ALL turn ALL of the sockets on/off simultaneously. It'd have made more sense if you could turn on/off individual sockets. But you can't. So why so many timers? It makes no sense to me. But maybe someone will find it useful? 5I just threw it in the garbage after two years of trying to program the GD ... I just threw it in the garbage after two years of trying to program the GD thing. I could never program it without spending the afternoon on it and never figured out how to override the timer function and use it as a regular power strip. I don't think I'll ever use a Chinese power strip with a timer on it again I replaced it with a regular power strip and put in Koo Geeks outlets and Home Kit. It's easier than programming that POS. 1Timer works well once it is setup.. I bought this surge protector for the timer feature. I needed someway to turn off the electronics in my bedroom at night and during the day while I'm at work. As other reviewers have mentioned, the timer is a bit confusing and difficult to read because of the tiny screen. It allows 6 different timer settings. You can set for all 7 days of the week or just the weekdays or weekends. There is an override feature to allow you to reactivate the surge protector. The timer screen is tiny and if you are not in a well lighted area it can be difficult to see the on/off and am/pm indicator since there is no back light. I plugged my surge protector behind a dresser so I needed a flashlight to see the screen. The cord is only 3' so you pretty much need to be next to an outlet. There are 6 3-prong outlets - 5 with timer and 1 "always on". The override feature allows you to manually turn on protector during "off" period.Once I set the timer up using the included instructions, it worked as expected (i.e., turns off/on as expected. You just need to follow the instructions. It can be a little frustrating but if you follow the directions the timer can be set. I'm not great at following instructions, but I was able to set it up after a few trial and errors. I like it overall and now I don't have to worry about my electronics being on as I sleep. There are three tiny lights on the protector to indicate that the protector is plugged in and an indicator to show that timer is set. It's a bit pricier, but worth it to have electronics turned off. Just wish the timer screen was a little larger and the cord a little longer. Overall worth the effort it took to setup the timer. 4Missing LCD and Button Backlighting = minus one star!!!! PRO'STimer function helps save energy on 5 out of 6 outlets. You get up to 6 on/off timers to use. You can set which days the timer works. You can select 7 days per week, individual days of the week, Monday through Friday, Monday through Saturday, Saturday and Sunday. Typical APC quality construction. You get $50,000 equipment protection policy. Lifetime warranty and as a bonus you get EMI/RFI Noise rejection (100 kHz to 10 MHz)CON'SThe lead chord is short. If you are like me, you want these units tucked out of sight behind things which makes setting the timer very difficult. The lead plug comes out at 90 degrees which can block other outlets. The very biggest CON is there is no LCD or button backlighting so I had to fumble around with my smartphone flashlight in an akward position to get the timer set. Maybe I'm wrong here, however it would be nice if APC offered a unit like this (WITH BACKLIGHTING!!) with six timer outlets and six always on outlets. My review is 4.5 stars here, highly recommended!!!-.5 star for no backlighting, would have gladly paid an extra $5.00 or $10.00 more for this function!!!!!!! 4Perfect! I purchased this item for my reptile collection. They have numerous lights that need to come on and go off at a certain time each day. It's very important that the timer their lights are on work perfectly. After reading the reviews I was slightly nervous about using this product but I knew I couldn't beat the price so I gave it a go. I am so happy that I did, this power strip does exactly what it should. It keeps perfect time and has not once had to be reset in the month I've had it. 5Easy to program and great price! This product is fantastic. It's so nice thatI ordered several more. It's extremely easy to program, is reliable and the price is right. It does work as a regular sure protector if you don't set the timer or if you reset it. I was surprised at how much I like it since there were some not so flattering reviews. I am sooooooo happy with this product and can't recommend it enough! 5great for reptile owners I was convinced to get this after a saw a review form another reptile owner on this product. I really needed a timed outlet for my 3 reptile's heat sources, because i am going to be out of town for a week, and i would not be there to turn them off n' on! I set them all and they seem to work just fine! Turned on and off at the assigned hour. Easy enough to set the clock and timers (which was nice.)I recommend this product if your have multiple reptiles with heat lamps to keep them consistent heating schedules... and so you don't have to worry about flicking their lights off n on if your at work our out-in-about. You can set different timers for the 5 different outlets for any day(s) of the week. This is a much better buy then the "Zilla 24/7 digital timer power outlet" in my opinion and this APC seems to be much better quality.Only 4 stars because 1.) the lcd read-out is very small. No problem for me, but it may be an issue for some people (especially seeming the on/off and am/pm display. 2.) there's no way of knowing which outlet is which of the 6. But i figured it out just by playing with it.other then that. GREAT! 4
