Customer Reviews

Found issues we couldnt find Not sure how we got by without these. We had a generator run and these found a lot of problems with our generator power that was giving us fits. Nothing our maintenance department had was finding the issue but these found it first run and helped them fix the problem. Far more than just network UPS monitors. 5card works, was new, but card was OLD!! i order a new condition card and receive a new condition card. i install the card and log into the web portal and the screens look nothing like what is shown online. i look and would you look at that.... the firmware installed was from 2010! i then look some more and the cards manufacture date was in 2010! this card has been sitting in a box for 8 years!well, i proceed with updating the firmware released late 2018 (which goes super smooth) and the card works great.people have asked why this is so expensive, and some have commented that it is just a network interface card. it is much more than that.your standard NIC you would buy for $20 or less for a desktop is just a NIC. this card has an entire (multiple technically) web server and operating system embedded in it. remember this card has TELNET capabilities, web access, and FTP server (file upload and download) functionality. each is their own stand alone server operating on the embedded operating system of the card. All of this is running on the card, not the UPS itself. this requires much more time to design and more expensive parts, but mostly you are paying for the time and effort to write and MAINTAIN updated code for this product.while the new SMART UPS have the smart connect feature, this card gives you so much more. the smart connect gives you the ability to see the status of the UPS (faults, battery run time/capacity etc), e-mail you if there are issues, that is all it is doing, allowing you to see the UPS readings. this functionality is also included free with the smart UPS. so if you are looking only for basic monitoring and email notifications of a select few important events, you may not need this card.however if you want to actually change settings (ANY AND ALL SETTINGS) within the UPS, you can do this through the management card. the management card can also e-mail notify you for a plethora of additional reasons if you deem needed. you can also manually operate the UPS outlet groups, turn off or on the UPS remotely perform tests and diagnostics etc of the unit all remotely. if you want or need any (and more) of these features then this card is what you want. then you simply register your UPS on APC smart connect temporarily so you can get additional warranty time on your battery.i recommend this card and am going to get three more on top of the two i now have so all of my units have this card.the reason i have assigned 4/5 stars is due to the email notification:the newest firmware does support TLS 1.2 which modern browsers and email providers now want. i have had difficulty in getting my SMTP messages sent if they require TLS or SSL (hotmail, gmail, yahoo etc) so it does seem the card still has issues with encryption. to get my e-mail working i used my local ISP SMTP server with no TLS/SSL and no authentication (no user name and password). My ISP allows this if and only if the SMTP message originates from my account's Modem MAC address. The MAC address origination behaves as the username/password. This is still not ideal as there is no encryption, but at least i do not need to worry about user names or password being transmitted in plain text. reading online there are some work around, but they are messy. if this worked the way it is marketed, then i should be able to use my gmail or hotmail SMTP directly. 4Does what you want Allows you to install the Network Shutdown software and gracefully shut down PCs in the event of a power outage. I use it at home, however, so the high price of entry is a little rediculous.... but I understand it's priced for corporate usage. Works well, easy to configure once you figure out APC's maze of product offerings and software suites. 5Arrived with static IP set Not able to configure with the discovery software due to a static 192.168.1.X address set. Pressing the reset button for 20 seconds did NOT restore the card to factory default settings and switch it to DHCP mode.To reset the card to use DHCP a UPS with a front panel control was needed. Navigate to Advanced mode then Network Management then change from Manual IP to DHCP. 4Relatively expensive, but essential for multi-computer response to power event Although this card is expensive for what it is, basically an Ethernet card for your APC UPS, it does work and is essential if you want more than one computer to respond to a power outage. One thing that you'll want to pay attention to is that the software you need to respond to events over Ethernet is included with this card, the software that comes with the UPS does not have an option for responding to network events. 4So far so good, but... I finally got around to installing these in the two UPS units at the work site. The utility that was supposed to find the Network Management card failed to find them. The default IP address for the cards, 192.168.1.5 (mask 255.255.255.0) was on a different subnet than our local area network (192.168.0.x). We had to reset the IP address on one of the networked computers (manually) to 192.168.1.200 (from 192.168.0.200) before the computer could 'see' the network management cards. Once we did this, we could use a browser to see and change the settings of the cards. We found out that the IP addresses on the cards were both 192.168.1.5 even though the manual says that the card is set up by default to use DHCP to get an IP address. Once we could communicate with the cards we reset the IP addresses, etc., to addresses on our 192.168.0.x network. There's still work to do to configure the settings, but a lot of time was spent fussing with the networking problem. 4Great Product The APC AP9630 UPS Network Management Card 2 is great. I would strongly recommend this product for anyone who has Smart UPS. It is design to shutdown your servers before the UPS runs out of battery in case of power outage. I also would add that the APC Customer Support is very good as well, so if you have need for one this is the way to go. 5Poorly made with capacitors falling off (two so far...) I've ordered two of these. Each was defective, having capacitors falling off (or wholly detached) upon arrival. I had to return the first, order the second, return that one... and still don't have a working network management card for my UPS (APC SMT750RM2U). 1Great product, be careful updating firmware APC site is ... Great product, be careful updating firmware APC site is a bit tricky to navigate re Firmware. however if mistakes are made you can overwrite firmware versions. 5Card was used This is listed as a new product but the card we received was used. We know this because it came with an IP address statically set by another customer, which made it so we had to contact APC to send us a special console cable in order to reset the IP. These cards come from factory set to receive DHCP. This caused extra troubleshooting, delays, and headaches. Very disappointed. 2
