Customer Reviews

Great for fpvCameras for fpv cameras and people have paid upwards of $100 for a security camera it does the same thing once it's transmitted / 5.8 2.4 or 1.3 the video quality is going to be about the same spend the money on a transmitter this camera works great I recommend it5Awesome for the price - wish the breakout plug was in a different location...What a great little CCTV camera for the price!!! It's not the sharpest, but the size format is perfect. I'm using it as a virtual window into another room in the house (watching people make music while I record it).One little complaint - the location of the breakout plug makes it next to impossible to point this camera downwards without putting a great deal of strain on the breakout cable (power & video). You'd think they'd make a plug location where it wouldn't interfere with how you position the camera in it's brackets.5Good functioning camera; nice, wide viewThis camera has been in use for a couple of months now and continues to work fine. The picture is nice and clear, but not quite HD. I had to build a bracket to mount it on (it comes as shown) but this is what I wanted as I was using it in a very small, specific location. It fit inside of a 2-gang electrical box with ease. It does have a good, extra-wide view (fish-eye) and color and focus are satisfactory. The only quirk is that the camera light receiver behind the lense must have been installed a bit off center because I had to aim the camera 15 degrees off to get it to center on the desired field of view. This creates a miniscule amount of warping of the picture that you really have to study to discern. Not a big deal, just a little odd. Overall I am quite pleased with the camera. Realize that this is coming slow-boat from china. It took about 2 1/2 weeks to arrive. Considering the price I can't complain at all.4Versatile... excellent performance... needs suitable user-provided housingThe 8mm lenses on these cameras give a narrower / "closer" view than the typical 3.6mm lens on many surveillance cameras. This allows better detail, but in a narrower viewing area... so they can't give as full "coverage" of a wide/tall area, that a typical camera could cover at the same distance. These lenses would be suited for covering an area that's further away from the camera site, or for comparatively "magnifying" closer objects - to better see the details. They would be more suitable for, say, looking at an area that's 50' to 100' away from the camera site, where their effective width of view would be wider. And they would provide better detail of such areas, as compared to the typical 3.6mm-lensed cameras mounted at the same distance.Anyway, the images produced by these cameras are quite good over most of the range of visible light... and although they don't switch to black-and-white mode for improved low-light vision, they still produce a fairly usable *color* image under low-light - and they respond great to 850nm IR illumination - so they can produce a very usable and semi-colored image during darkness with the use of IR illuminator(s). (This colored image may be more useful in some cases than the black-and-white images produced by typical surveillance cameras under low-light conditions). I've been quite pleased so far with this camera's performance over the full range of ambient light levels.I've even replaced the 8mm "long lens" on one of these cameras with a 2.1mm extra-wide-angle lens, so that I could cover a much wider nearby area that is dimly-illuminated by visible light at night (so it does not need added IR illumination with this camera - meaning that I don't need a typical surveillance camera that has built-in IR LEDs for this location). The image produced under this condition is usable, albeit a bit "dim". The nice thing is that this camera *does not* generate the "noisy"/grainy image that some other cameras produce under such low-light conditions - so it does not cause the unwanted triggering of image-based motion detection on DVRs - that plagues many other types of "low-light" cameras.Although these cameras seem to provide generally good color fidelity, one weird thing that I've noticed - and cannot explain - is some "black" (charcoal gray) fabrics show up as bright royal blue in the camera images, while other "black" objects in the images appear in their "correct" black color. It is strange to see visually someone in a "black" coat walking past "black" objects, and then to see the coat showing up in the camera images as bright blue against those other black objects. I don't understand why only the "black" fabric items show up as blue, while the other "black" items show up as "black" in the camera images. Other than this one aberration, everything looks very close to its normal color in the images from these cameras.**** (2017 Dec 20 Update) *****I recently received four more of these cameras, only to find that the newer ones DO NOT respond to IR light. The seller explained that the older cameras came with "50% filters", while the new ones have "100% filters" built-in. The 100% filters apparently block nearly all IR light, in exchange for improving the color fidelity of the daylight images. Unfortunately, this seriously reduces their usefulness for my intended application, so I am reducing the rating to four stars.************************************The only "downsides" that I've found involve the mounting/housing of these cameras: Being a "board camera", the user must provide a suitable protective enclosure, as needed, as well as some provision for mounting/adjusting the aiming. If used to replace the camera module in a conventional surveillance camera, this problem is moot: Just swap this board camera with the existing module in the camera... but if this camera is to be used with its own mounts and housings, I've found it to be surprisingly difficult to find any suitable protective enclosure that also allows easy mounting and provides practical aiming adjustment. In fact, the *only* usable enclosures that I've found so far are some plastic "dome" enclosures. Unfortunately, these domes are not weather-resistant, and they are also quite a bit larger than the cameras... and the domes are relatively restrictive as far as where they can be mounted. So... coming up with a suitable mounting/housing arrangement for this (or any other "board camera") can be a significant problem in some cases.Other than the mounting/housing issue, I've found these cameras to be quite versatile, and they easily resolve some special-case problems that challenge typical surveillance cameras.4Lens a bit big to be called a spy cam... or is it?Cannot believe how impressed I was with this mini spy cam. Not really a spy cam having a 2.1mm Lens, but it is small enough to be discretely hidden. I purchase a PI Manufacturing ABS Plastic Project Box (5.30" (L) x 2.95" (W) x 1.92" (H)) and drilled a hole in it the same size as the lens and then with a couple drops of hot glue to hold the board in place I then put a clock mechanism from walmart on the front and with a little decorating , it just looks like a clock unless you look at it closely so for the price and the quality of this camera and a little bit of creativity, it turned out to be a spy cam after all that I was able to hook right up to my DVR.5very average. daytime onlythis is a aweful camera. Only posted 3 stars so it might get on the reveiws list to warn others . YOU get what you pay for..owned it quite some time before needing then tested it .. Was very average in image. and NO IR ability. even with upgrading the lense..Not impressive as any kind of a security camera.. Not worth it to return it. For me.3Great cameraHigh quality camera for the price. The focal length is easy to adjust by backing off the set-screw on the lens and screwing the lens in or out. Can be made to focus just an inch or two in front of the camera or it can be set for infinity. The picture shows a cutaway lock with the camera permantely mounted about 2 inches in front of it.5Great buy, look no further.Received the camera on time. It was well packaged and in seemingly good shape. It didnt work at all. Contacted the seller. They promptly sent me a new one at no cost. The replacement works great. I use a BNC adapter to RCA and plug it directly into my television for live feed viewing. I would say the picture quality is as advertised and its as expected for sure. Its not HD but you can identify someones face at 20 ft easily. Works very well in low light. Havent tried it with IR yet, but it doesnt appear to have an IR filter so I expect it to do very well. Some people say with the supplied power supply it gets too hot, but mine seems to stay cool to the touch. A little warmth but nothing alarming. I have no complaints and overall works very well. Also, the second one I got was a little different then the first. A different color pc board and different printing on the lens. Functionally the same but maybe a different manufacturer? Maybe this is where the mixed reviews come from.4Good camera... but needs an add-on IR LED board to get its full functionality. This camera is great for close-in viewing of relatively tight spaces - like small rooms, porches, etc. It allows broader viewing of nearby areas, although the other side of the coin is that it is not so useful for viewing things beyond perhaps 25'-30' (due to size distortion). Due to the relatively severe wide angle lens, there is some "ballooning" (image distortion), as would be expected - but I didn't find it to be excessive for my purposes. This camera has an IR Cut filter making it compatible with IR illuminator boards (which must be purchased separately. Because of the wide-angle lens, a wide-angle IR LED board is needed to provide illumination over the entire viewing field). The IR Cut filter operates ONLY when an IR LED board is connected to it.Without an IR LED board attached, the camera still gives good performance under visible light, but it's performance in low-light conditions suffers. With an IR LED board attached, it gives very good low-light performance under IR illumination. (Of course, it switches to black-and-white mode during IR operation).I had some difficulty finding information about how to properly connect an IR board to the camera, and the unexpected difficulty of obtaining this information is the main reason why I gave this camera only a four-star rating. The camera gets connected to an IR illuminator board via one pin in a 2-pin "CDS" connector on the camera board, wired to one pin of a similar 2-pin "CDS" connector on some generic IR LED boards. I also discovered that some IR LED boards do not even have any "CDS" connector - nor even any instructions for the proper spot to solder the "CDS" control lead onto the IR LED board - even though those IR LED boards are sold as being intended for connection to a camera board having an IR CUT filter. (This is no fault of the camera design, but rather a peculiar omission on the part of those IR LED board manufacturers). Anyway, it's something to watch out for when selecting an IR LED board for use with this camera. In any case, only one pin of each connector actually connects the control signal for the camera's IR CUT filter. But because there seems to be no "standard" as far as which pin is used for this signal on any given camera or IR LED board, some experimentation may be needed in order to get the correct pins connected. Also, I had a bit of difficulty in finding suitable connecting wires that have the correct 2-pin connector attached. I did find some generic "pig-tail" connectors that have both pins wired in one 2-pin connector, but a pair of these pig-tails would need to be soldered together appropriately to make the "CDS" connection. Some of the IR LED boards came with a short wire with the needed 2-pin connector on each end, but the wires seemed to have been inserted into these connectors at random - that is, inserted into Cavity 1 in some cases, but inserted into Cavity 2 in other cases - so it was necessary to do some "cherry-picking" of a wire that happened to be inserted into the correct cavities of each connector as needed, or else to CAREFULLY remove the wire from the wrong cavity and re-insert it into the other cavity in the connector. I also notice that when these 2-pin connectors have a wire/pin inserted into only one of the two cavities, they do not have enough "grip" on the mating connector header, so they tend to pull off very easily. Due to all of these reasons, making (and keeping) the "CDS" connection between the camera and an IR LED board can be very "fussy".In summary, this camera is designed to have an IR LED board connected, although it will work under adequate visible light conditions without any IR LED board attached. Either way, it produces good images - of course it does not support low-light IR mode (and its IR CUT filter does not operate) unless an IR LED board is attached. Finding the applicable connection information for a particular IR LED board can be sketchy.4Sorry Not This OneWhen you (Ansice) publish ALL of your products as 0.0 lux, you are claiming a clear view in perfect dark. This camera certainly proves that is not the case, it becomes grainy and unfocused at the equivalent of a full moon 0.5 lux. Even when supplemented with 150+ IR illuminators it does not improve.
