Customer Reviews

Maximum bang for the buck! 1 year later dead. Solid performance with an extremely responsive company behind it. This is a goto item at the shop for our basic ssd upgrade for older boxes -ADATA Premier SP550 240GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Solid State Drive (ASP550SS3-240GM-C)ADATA Premier SP550 240GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Solid State Drive (ASP550SS3-240GM-C) maximum bang for the buck, no doubt! edit: 1 YEAR LATER AND THE PRICE HAS DOUBLED BUT THIS PRODUCT HAS BECOME A BRICK. 1 year later it is dead - warranty attempts with ADATA unsuccessful! BAD! 1SU800 in RAID-10 - 1,551 MB/s read and will they really last 228 years? I've bought 16 of these recently for some test servers we have here. It looks like our setup is a bit different than most. We have small HP ML30 servers with 20GB memory, running Windows 2016 and SQL Server 2016 and we put four SU800-512GB on each server in a RAID-10 configuration. As you can see by the attached tests, we get average read speeds of 1551 MB/s from the latest Passmark tests. We use these to stress test our company's products (our company makes back office software) and we've been keeping them at 90%+ for weeks on end and they've been holding up well. We have had one failure, but I think it was because a drive was improperly seated in its IcyDock. We were attracted to these because of their TBW (total bytes written) spec of 400, but now I see that ADATA makes a SU900 model that has a rating of 800, so next time we get some, we may spend the extra few $ and get those instead. The 400 rating is about the best of any drive in its class as far as I can tell, and with the way we "test" the drives, we tend to wear them out well before the normal 228 years that they are supposed to last :-). BTW: Who really thinks that they will be wanting to use their same drive 228 years (2 million hours) from now? 5Complete garbage. Bought a kingston 128GB ssd and this adata ... Complete garbage. Bought a kingston 128GB ssd and this adata 128GB SU800 back in February 2018. Both were installed in mid march running similar systems. The Adata machine started having difficulties and running slow. I went to reboot the system and it wouldn't come back. At first, the error was stating that the boot record was corrupt. I then proceed to use the recovery disc for repair. This is where things got interesting. The drive apparently failed to the point where the bios would recognize it but windows wouldn't load. I then proceeded to install it on another working machine to see if I can format the drive. The interesting thing is that that machine wouldn't even want to boot. I tried this with another machine and the same thing. My final remedy was to install it on the original machine and try to run the windows installer from USB and then try to install windows that way. No luck. There must be some critical failure when mounting the drive that prevents the OS from even operating.Things go more interesting when I attempted to file an RMA. I created an account on Adata's website and filled out all of the information required to start the process. This involved entering my name, address, purchase data, serial #, product id, description of problem (text area), etc. They received this information and 48 hours later, I get an email with a word document stating that I must fill it out in order to finalize the process. Funny thing is that this word document has a small form which asks for my name, address, serial # and a one line sentence of the problem. Do you see the problem here? I just filled out a greater subset of information on their website when I started the RMA. Now they want me to fill out a word document with some of the information that I already fill out on the website. Not only that, the information on the website has much more detail. They even have a dropdown menu with an option that describes my problem 90%.More problems. The drive I bought from amazon only had the product label and a small sticker on the side that reads "warranty void if broken" There wasn't a serial number on the drive whatsoever. The serial number was on the box. I let them know that there wasn't a number on the drive itself. They responded letting me know that the warranty is void because there isn't a sticker on the back with the serial number.A couple points. Based on the FTC, they can't void the warranty. Also, either they forgot to put the sticker on the drive or amazon sold me a fake or used drive.Adata's solution is for me to send them a picture of the back showing the lack of a sticker. I asked them what this is going to accomplish. Especially after going through the multi-step process of submitting the RMA. Leonard, the supervisor, told me that he would take it to management to see what they wanted to do. Other than wasting my time, I don't see what this is going to accomplish. Here is the picture for you viewing pleasure. 1You get what you pay for. Ok, I'm upping my score.I got a bad read-sector on one ADATA drive I got last year. Got another one a couple months ago and it's been perfect, w/ 500MB+ read/write rates every time. Rates on other one were the same, but some benchmarks dipped under 500MB (oh no! )I've now had TWO OCZ (one Radeon 7) and another Toshiba brand. One Toshiba has failed (it was DOA essentially, kept cutting off every 10-20 seconds), the other Radeon 7 OCZ before Toshiba bought them died to the point the OS wouldn't boot. And my Adata didn't fail totally, it had a sector or two fail, which happened to be holding system files, but I RMA'ed and they gave me the same drive back (I had marked the sectors bad, so after I did that and reformatted, it didn't reproduce, so I think they just gave me my old drive back (had a distinct scuff mark that was there when I sent it in which was still there), which I didn't really appreciate. If a sector fails, I want a new drive, even if it's just one or two. Fast turn-around and I think they paid the shipping - I work in IT so it's hard to keep track of everything - and I'm getting older and my memories not as good as it was ;)I also have a Samsung Evo 850 1TB. This drive is just as fast as both of them. Solid 450-500MB read/write rates. Get this before it sells out and don't believe the 3d hype, this 2d holds up, minus ~50mb/sec or so - which isn't even consistent, it sometimes benches just as fast as the Evo 850. Don't waste the extra 100 dollars, though I will say, it's the only brand, along w/ Kingston, that has never failed on me.Great drive over all. 5Support is non existent There is quite a lengthy comment from another purchaser stating all the many issues he encountered. These included a convoluted, and for me a complete non success outcome resolving multiple issues. Receiving migration software was just a farce. Don't count on it. When I couldn't find a serial number and complained to Amazon they just forwarded my complaint to Adata. Adata did not assist me with a serial number and all codes on my drive did not work to receive software. Acronis offered no help either and Amazon basically is off the hook since problem extended past the return date. I have a drive that has cost me endless hours of aggravation attempting to complete a purchase with all that was advertised and that isn't what I received. Last major issue was the drive is advertised as 512gb but mine would only show 480Gb. I now see Adata has a new model listing 480Gb. Interesting! Thank you Amazon! 1Excellent drive for fast boots and program launches. Not for file hoarders. This is a great drive for specific needs. If you want your computer to boot much faster than with a HDD this if for you.If you want better battery life on your mobile pc this is for you.If you want sustained high speed writes this is not for you. This drive uses the cheaper slower type of flash memory and a small pool of faster high speed flash. When you start copying files, it copies it to the small pool of fast memory and slowly offloads it to the slower memory. This works well for small files, but for big files, it fills up quickly and the speed drops. For this reason I recommend this drive to people who just want their computer to be snappier than it was before and arent planning on copying large amounts of files daily. 4Short lived, not recommended. This drive failed after 1 year, and 5 months. SMART status showed 5 and 182 code errors. Connecting it externally via USB adapter in another Windows 10 pc causes Windows to crash, however, connecting externally to a MacBook reads it and recovers data just fine. Data not lost but drive is now trash. 1Do not buy this ADATA SU800 SSD. Way too slow. Firmware update erases all your data. The 128GB SU800 is just plain slow!!!!!!! If you choose to perform a firmware update on your drive ALL your data will be wiped! No other SSD manufacturer such as Samsung or Crucial erases user data with their firmware updates. I'll never buy another ADATA SSD again.Look up online the in depth review for these ADATA SU800 SSDs on Tom's Hardware. The smaller the drive, the slower it is. The best performing drive of the SU800 series is the 512GB model. ADATA is very misleading on their packaging with claims of read speeds up to 560MB/s and write speeds up to 520MB/s on the 128GB SSD. It's a straight out lie.I do not recommend this 128GB SU800 SSD from ADATA. Spend a few dollars more and go with a mainstream Samsung or Crucial SSD.You've been warned. 1Dead within 2 months Didn't even bother to return it. I had this in an older laptop and it was working great and without notice it failed to boot one day. For $40 I just chalked it up as a mild annoyance and moved on with my day. I tested it again in another system yesterday just to be sure it was for sure dead. Yep. Dead-Dead-Deadski. That's ok, ADATA, I don't need your cut-rate crap anyway. Should have just paid the extra scratch for a Crucial or a Samsung. If you want to compete in this market, you should probably think about making products that last longer. Bye ADATA. 1Drive Died after 6 months I bought this in January 2017, It died June 2017. I have submitted my RMA to Adata. This is the only SSD I have purchased that has failed. Very disappointed. This was a drive I put in a laptop for a friend and I can't believe it only lasted 6 months. Typically I buy Samsung EVO drives, I will continue to purchase those drives. 1
