    This books contains how a genius presents his own ideas, discoveries and conclusions, in his own words!Wow! To read the writings of this genius is amazing. His suggestions and ideas are presented in his own words (though translated to English from Italian.) I am thrilled to have discovered this book through another source. Was unable to finish it due to this... maybe I'll revisit it later but for now it's too much trouble; there were some helpful tidbits in what I did get through. 2How did this happen?It relates to a novel I m writing so I m excited to read it, but can t.The book was sealed inbubble wrap, but it s wet! The pages are limp and warped. I m trying to press it beteeen slabs of stone. 2but it does provide excellent insight into the methodology of Da VinciNot so much for a how to for painting, but it does provide excellent insight into the methodology of Da Vinci, along with the psychology of his genius. 5Five StarsI was looking for a specific reference, and I found it in this book! 5MY APPRECIATION - So Far !Well presented. However, it does not make 'light' reading. It needs to be studied and re-read sometimes, to fully understand and appreciate it's meaning. It functions as a reconstruction of da Vinci's views on (the making of) art, since he planned to write a comprehensive treatise on the subject but never did. What I did miss, though, is an introduction that offers some historical background information on da Vinci and the art theory of his days, to put the whole thing into context.Either way, the book is a very nice addition to any art historical library (right next to Alberti's and Cennini's treatises) 4Five StarsGift 5fac simile leonardo's treatise on paintingThis is the well known MacMahon edition of the codex Urbinas Lat 1270, which contains the famous Leonardo da Vinci's treatise on painting. One of this two volume set contains the fac simile of the original manuscript, so you can check the translation for accuracy on the real text (even if this text is not by Leonardo's hand, but only a XVIth copy of the lost Leonardo's manuscript). 5
