    Didn't work out for me I gave up on installing this contact. My existing contact disappeared when workers replaced my door and frame. I had four wires (red, black and twisted green and yellow) coming out of the wall, but this contact only had places to attach two. Then when I tried to experiment, I couldn't even get the screws to budge. So it was a fail. 2WORKS JUST FINE I used this one on a new front door.... Before, there was a magnet inside the old door. The new hurricane door was so nice I dared not drill big holes in it, so I bought this and just put it on the outside, using screws on the door frame for the part with the wires and double faced tape on the door. Works jjust fine and saved myself a $85. service charge. 5Worked like a charm. Had an old magnetic door surface mount that was frequently triggering false alarms. Removed old switch and installed new one in about 15-20 minutes. (Took longer than it should since existing wires were too short to work with.) Working now perfectly. No more false alarms. Cost me less than $7. At least $100 to have ADT fix. 4Inexpensive, Quality Solution We replaced our back door and the alarm sensor never seemed to work properly again. Based on the low price, we decided to try this product. It is just what we needed! It isn't cheap, the assembly consisted of a couple of screws and our pricey alarm system is back up and running for less than $10. 5Excellent contacts for an alarm system These are good contacts for an alarm system, with a sensitivity somewhat greater than others (1-1/2"). While I found that a full 1-1/2" was far too marginal for consistency, an inch was quite acceptable.These were used as replacements when I had new windows installed. The original modules had yellowed, and were sufficiently old that I chose replacement. Mounting was straightforward. Screws and covers are all included. For several, I had to make some 1/4" or 1/2" shims, as the new windows had different geometry than the original windows.I installed one alarm circuit at a time -- typically 3-4 contacts. For those, I taped a magnet to each contact, and queried the alarm system for all closed. This tested my wiring -- any opens would have been noted at this point. Then I installed each magnet for this circuit, and tested again. Finally, I opened each window to confirm the lack of short circuits (which would have prevented an alarm from occurring when the window opened). Following this methodology made the installation straightforward.These have been operating properly for several weeks with no issues. Prior experience indicates that failures are rare for properly installed new devices. I have had 20-year old switches develop intermittent opens, resulting in false alarms (different house), so periodic replacement -- every few decades -- is a good idea, if your technology still requires a wired window contact. 5Reed switch with stronger magnets Standard door reed switch with a good smooth look, this is a little bigger then some but it also works with up to 1 in gap. 5Flexible install... perfect operation. This sensor replaced crappy sensors that came with Nexx Smart Wifi Gararge. Nexx wanted $20 for a replacement sensor that was no better than the junk they originally shipped. This sensor was only $7 and arrived quickly after ordering. Connected wires, added protective cap (nice touch) then installed in minutes. The sensor comes in two parts that only have to be near each other to register (lots of margin, can even be more than an inch apart!). Now I get proper messages about status of garage door, with easier sensor install than Nexx sensor. Couldn't be happier. 5Works well as a replacement. This worked well as a replacement for a broken sensor although i did have to re-drill a hole in my sliding door. 5Good sensors. I've got mine hooked up to an ... Good sensors. I've got mine hooked up to an arduino to sense the state of my garage door (open/closed/in between). I'm quite sure most people aren't buying these for this reason, but it's a perfectly good application. If you ever need to close a circuit when two things come close together in proximity (but not necessarily touch), then this will do the job. 4Good quality and good fit'n'finish Of course, the thing works.It's also reassuringly a bit heavier and less flimsy-seeming than other similar devices, with an embossed arrow for preferred orientation, is smoothly finished, doesn't cost much, and is shipped free of charge.Not that I think anybody else's version wouldn't serve the purpose, but these are quite nice. 5
