Customer Reviews

Gamble worked for me! We have three 50w MR16 hanging halogen pendant lights in our kitchen which we converted to 4w MR16 LED lights. Two of them worked great right off the bat but one flickered and I pretty much knew it was the transformer. I wasn't exactly sure if this would work as the specs on this state it needs a minimum 10w load and I was using a 4w led bulb but since the other two transformers worked and they also said they needed a minimum 10w load I decided to go ahead and take a chance especially since the price was right. Bottom line is the gamble paid off for me as it worked perfectly. If your trying to use this on anything smaller than a 4 watt load you would probably be pushing your luck. There are transformers with no minimum load built just for LEDs but they are not exactly cheap. 5Failed after 15 minutes driving 36W of LEDs I hooked it up to a 50W halogen bulb, and it worked fine. I connected it to some outdoor lighting...12 3-watt (12V AC) MR-16 Philips LEDs...and they lit up as well. After a few minutes, I touched the transformer and it was barely warm, so no thermal problems. But after 15 minutes, the lights went out. When I tried the 50W bulb again, it did not light. Perhaps this "transformer" doesn't work with LEDs...it is labeled "Halogen"...but a normal transformer wouldn't care. Perhaps it is a switching power supply that needs an incandescent load. Since it might be my fault, I'll give it two stars, not one. 2Excellent replacement for my halogen floor lamp I purchased two of these transformers to replace 2 Class II transformers in a floor lamp. We like the floor lamp and decided to refurbish it. These transformers work great and do not generate the amount of heat that the original transformers did. The original transformers allowed for two light intensities, but these do not. However, it is better to spend $20 to $30 to refurbish than $400 - $500 to replace. We are very happy with these transformers, so far. They arrived in the time stated and they were in good condition. 5It didn't work as received - dead I connected the transformer to the light fixtures over our bathroom sinks, NOTHING. I got my electrical tester, set it for the correct voltage and applied it to the output of the transformer, again NOTHING.I assume that no tests were performed by the manufacturer or the middleman to verify that it functioned as per the specs, or else it would have worked as it was supposed to.More Chinese junk.Just an added comment, "now I have to search for another supplier of this product and wait for it to be delivered". All in all, I do appreciate Amazon's return policy, it was very helpful and easy. 1It was replacement The original transformer was faulty 3Ideal for my project The transformer was used to replace a rusted out version mounted inside a concrete wall mounted fixture. I sealed all open edges of this plastic unit in hopes of waterproofing it from the elements. So far it is working as planned there are six more to replace and it will require at least a year to determine if they outperform the originals 5MOST FAIL WITHIN A SHORT TIME - ABSOLUTE JUNK Absolute crap. One burned out in a few hours, the next one failed in two months (one month warrantee). I used it for the halogen it was designed for, indoors, etc. Look at the many, many reviews which say it failed in minutes or a little longer. I'm not the only one! OMG STAY AWAY!!!! 1Works as it should Thought I already rated this, but I replaced my transformer for my desk lamp and it was easy and works fine. Lamp it just a touch less bright, not enough to matter, but in a way that will save bulb life. I am currently using this with a 40 watt bulb and could go to a 60 if you found the brightness not acceptable. A lot cheaper than buying a whole new lamp. 5WARNING - FIRE HAZARD After only 2 months of use (daily, but not continuous) one of the transformers melted under 30% load. I have two 10W 12V halogen lamps connected to each transformer I purchased.I would not recommend this product for a any low voltage installation as it is not designed for it. The transformer sold here is designed to be used in an equipment, not as an installation component. Note the UL recognition and its meaning: [...]I will be changing mine to something safe. 1Immediately Malfunctioned The transformer worked for one second and then completely stopped functioning. Although the seller offered a full refund, I had to pay shipping. I do not recommend this product. 1
