Customer Reviews

As expected Very happy with this purchase! I picked these up for use when mowing the lawn, and they work perfectly. It takes me roughly an hour and a half to mow, and while they do start to get a bit uncomfortable by the end, I think this is mainly because I typically wear earbuds underneath, so the fit is altered a bit from what's intended. 5Good noise reduction for the sizeGreat profile, and good noise reduction.I have the much larger version in this series with higher NNR but it is not comfortable to use in some positions because the ear cups are almost 3 times as big. These work well enough to sleep/rest in without causing discomfort, which is good because my neighbor makes a lot of noise. The unit I got had the seam popping out a bit where the white ring connects to the cup. Turns out the padding was caught in between this space, and crumpled it up. Pulling off the circular ear pads and putting them back on, and then stuffing the padding back in fixed everything. It's good that all of the parts come apart easily and are replaceable.5Head fatigue from clamping pressureThese ear muffs are about the lightest I've found for the level of sound damping provided. They get those high damping numbers by increasing clamping pressure to ensure a good seal. The head band is apparently one continuous piece of lightly-treated sheet steel under a contoured rubberized-plastic molding: I was able to over-bend the headband a bit to make for a looser clamping action, and it's successfully holding the new shape. We got these to supplement our ear muff set when one pair was donated to my daughter's household. I wanted to try lighter-weight, lower-profile ear muffs without sacrificing a lot of hearing protection. These fit the bill, but at the cost of that increased clamping pressure. We keep these by the blender, where they are perfectly comfortable for the 60-90 second runs we do to make smoothies. I keep the bigger ones in the shop, where I'm likely to wear them for 20 minutes at a time while working with power tools.4About 70% reduction using power drills, circular saw, lawn mower, gast trimmer This will definitely protect your ears. I would not do any power tool work without them. Even for AIRPLANES they work superbly (cancel the engine noise).I use hammer drills, circular saw, lawn mower and gas trimmer with these and it brings down the noise to a very tolerable level.Aas for durability, all hard plastic and rubber parts so this baby wont die, ever. 5An improvement over others I've tried..... I originally purchased a pair of Homitt Sound Ear Muffs to help with specific high noise environments at the workplace. They're OK....but not great. I used them for a few weeks but wanted something that worked better so I purchased a set of Peltor X2A's. Same price as the Homitt, but the difference in noise reduction and comfort was immediate and dramatically better with the Peltors. Although the Peltors don't fold and aren't as compact, they still fit comfortably in my backpack. They are comfortable; at least for the short duration I need to wear them and I feel like they provide a better seal. So far, I'm very happy with the improvement. 4Discovery of the year!I don't leave reviews very often, but buying this guy was like hitting jackpot for me. This is by far my greatest discovery of the year.I like quiet. I work in an open-office space with people that can be very loud, I spend 2 hours a day in a bus that can also be loud, and I live in a house with a roommate who occasionally can also be loud.No need to get upset about any of that anymore. Just put these guys on, let them do their thing, and I'll do my own. My job requires high concentration, and my efficiency improved quite a bit with these. They are comfortable, adjust perfectly and tightly, and block sound very well. The greatest thing about it is that they look like trendy wireless headphones, so you get to wear them anywhere you want and few people will ever stop to think you are not wearing headphones.I also bought the X5A model, and although they do block even more sound, they are heavier, bulky, and look ridiculous in public. The X4A, however, I just love them. Totally recommended5work well These hearing protection work very well. I am happy about that as they are smaller than the ones i have owned for years. They are not as thick as my older ones so i thought it would not be as good. They do almost as good as the older ones. There is a little more sound using them when i am on my tractor but they work just as good when i go target shooting. My family likes the new one as it is not as thick so it is easier to do things in tighter places. 5Blocks the Bang from Your Buck I bought these for use in an indoor firing range to help protect my ears. Originally, I had purchased some inner earplugs, but my ears don't seem to be made for those, as they would get pushed out by my ear pressure every time. These earmuffs are comfy and easily block out enough noise to let me leave the range with my full hearing in tact. They can get a little warm from body heat, but it isn't too bad. They match well with the DEWALT DPG82-11 Concealer Clear Anti-Fog Dual Mold Safety Goggle I bought too. 5Great..."IF" you have SMALLER EARS that me... or have unattached ear lobes!Well made. Fully adjustable. The crown or band that goes over the top of your head can be reshaped if necessary. I have a high crown on top of my head so I altered the shape of the band to conform to the top of my head by bending it. Also, out of the box these muffs squeezed my head pretty tight. No problem... with some light outward flexing of the headband and I was able to spread the distance between the ear cups and relieve the squeezing pressure. The foam pads on the cups are really soft and comfortable and will easily seal out external noises. Regardless of what other reviewers have stated they seem really solid and quite durable. That said... the reason I can't give them 5 stars (for me anyway) is my ears will not comfortably fit inside the cups. However, for their quality to price ratio they're a good value. They fit my wife perfectly so she's keeping them. Since my ears will not comfortably fit inside the cups I included some photos along with the following detailed explanation so you can determine if they will work for you.The cup opening dimensions (ear hole opening ) is 2 3/8" tall and 1 3/8" wide. These muffs are designed to go "around" your entire ear so the ear cup foam can rest against the sides of your head. The foam pads should NOT be resting on any portion of your ear.NOTE: The actual opening "inside" the cups is slightly larger (approximately 2 7/8" tall and 1 7/8" wide). To determine if your ears will fit in these muffs, DO NOT measure the total height of your ear but rather the height portion of your ear where the ear flesh is physically attached to your head. (most ears in general - the highest portion of, top tip of the ear, is not attached to the head). This allows the top of the ear to fold down. The ear lobes are a different story. On some people (like me) the ear lobes are attached. On other people they are detached (see photo)So... moving these ear muffs around while working them into a comfortable position your ears more or less flop around until they are "inside the inner cup area. Once your ears are inside the cup and past the initial opening of the foam pad they can comfortably unfold (so to speak)My problem is my ear lobes are attached. The total attached part of my ear is taller than the opening in the cup. (see photo) In order for me to get my ear through and into the muff opening... I have to fold my ear lobes up! After about 30 minutes of wearing my ear lobes hurt from being folded and pinched. This also prevents the muffs from sealing against my head at the bottom of the muff.NET: If the fleshy attached portion of your ear is no taller than 2 3/8" they should work just fine.4Works great!Value: 5/5Noise cancellation: 5/5Fit comfort: 4/5Size: 4/5Weight: 4/5I don't use these for any heavy industrial work. Rather, to drown out the constant noise from my neighbor who plays basketball at all hours of the day in a driveway situated next to my bedrooms. The noise echoes through the driveway corridor and into my entire house. I needed something to cut the noise level down significantly. These earmuffs do a good job. They take out about 80% of the noise surrounding you. The cushions are soft and fit snug. There are adjustable headband poles that slide up and down to fit your head size. There is no way to adjust the "snug" so you have to live with it. No, these are not "extremely thin" as mentioned in the product specifications. To be fair, they are thinner than most of 3M's noise cancelling ear muffs. Examples of even thinner ear muff designs are the Howard Leight sport earmuffs used for shooting at the gun range.Leaving them on for 30 minutes, you will get sweat in the areas where the cushion touches skin. I tried sleeping with them on and they aren't totally comfortable..To give you a sense of how much noise this cuts down the noise:- Snap fingers: About 90%- Clap hands loudly: About 80%- Bounce basketball in closed garage: About 80%- TV at normal volume: About 80%- Mowing lawn: About 80%Yes, they are that good. Very satisfied with this purchase.4Great For the Classroom These have been AMAZING for my classroom. I keep 4 pairs on my desk and my students come grab them when they feel like they are getting distracted. The noise reduction is enough to drown out noise but they are still able to hear me if I call their name. At first I thought just my students who have learning disabilities would use them but all four pairs are almost always in use. I love watching all my different students take the initiative to grab these. Yes, there are cheaper ones out there but I returned two other brands before I settled on these because I wanted headphones that were going to hold up in my classroom of second graders and these are very well made. 5Much better than noise cancelling for mowing the lawn These work extremely well for me on my riding mower. I had tried to use noise cancelling earphones and my phone to listen to music while mowing, but I had to turn the music up so loud that it was as bad as the mower noise. With these earmuffs I can put ear bubs in my ears and then put these earmuffs on. Then I can listen to music at a low volume and still hear it. I have a large hed (hat size 7 5/8) and these fit snugly but comfortably. I've only used once, hope they last! 5Good for sleepingI use these types of earmuffs to sleep. With the right pillow, you can definitely sleep well with these. They block out most sounds for us light sleepers. I've had others and this one is slimmer than what I've used before. Highly recommend.Get the right pillow. I prefer pillows that sink easily, so that the earmuff doesn't put pressure on my head. I use the Purple Pillow, which feels like gelatin/rubber. This material combined with the earmuffs is a cloud for my head and no pressure points.5Excellent! I purchased these earmuffs for both the shooting range as well as using them while I mow the lawn. They work great for both these purposes. They arrived as promised and in good working condition. Additionally, they are very reasonably priced and fit snugly (yet comfortably) on my size 7 1/2 melon. I would recommend these to anyone needing decent hearing protection at an extremely reasonable price. 5... these in an open space office where it gets pretty lively at times I use these in an open space office where it gets pretty lively at times. The earmuffs do not completely block all the noises, but they make those significantly less noticeable and allow to better concentrate. I actually like the fact that, compared with active noise cancellation, you still have some awareness of what's going on around you. So for the price, this is a pretty good solution.Fun fact is when I first got them, people made fun of me because they look like you're at a construction site. But now a couple of other coworkers got them as well and they all like it.There's a another 3M pair out there with supposedly better isolation (something like 30db vs 24db this ones), so might be a better choice, but even these ones are pretty good. 4Great Quality, Design, Comfort. Works Well, Not For Extreme NoiseThese earmuffs are absolutely the best I've tried yet. They're the 4th pair I've tried in a very short period of time. The others were broken, cheap, or very painful to wear. They squeezed my head like a vice. These 27db 3M earmuffs are surprisingly comfortable in relation to what they are. They're slightly adjustable, and they fit great on me.I'm a petite woman, with medium-sized ears (my dad used to tell me that if you have big ears, you'll be rich and successful. But, he also told me that small splinters will travel into my heart and kill me).The oval cut-out in each earpiece fits right over my ear without pressing hard against it. There is an appropriate amount of space in there.I'm not sure about people with very large ears. It's important that your ears are completely sealed off. So if you happen to be a huge person, I might hesitate. It's also important that other things and accessories don't get in the way too much. Without the seal fitting snug around your ears, the noise protection level will be compromised. And it makes a big difference in its ability to block out extra noise. You have to wear glasses that are flat on the sides, and that lay flush against your head. Otherwise, the glasses won't fit well, and it will also allow sound to leak into the earmuffs. From what i've seen, there are really thin and lightweight plastic eye protectors that seem appropriate, for those who need them.I've been really excited and impressed by the excellent comfort and sturdiness (and neon yellow-green color). The design is impeccable, although I'm disappointed that I can't wear them around my neck like regular headphones. They're too big for that.Yet the earpieces are pretty slim in width, in comparison to other earmuffs, and I can deal with wearing these in public without feeling too self-conscious.Today, I brought the earmuffs to my doctor's office. Since they don't fold up in any way, they took up my whole medium-sized purse. I had to substitute my regular wallet for a tiny zippered pouch.I'm wondering about maybe attaching some sort of metal clip to the headpiece, so they can be worn on my hip. Just a brief idea....we'll see.Anyway, I was sooo thankful I brought the earmuffs to the doctor's waiting room. There is a ridiculously loud big-screen tv that really bothers my sensitive hearing. I've complained about it, and even the receptionists have no idea how to adjust the volume on it. There is no volume button! It's controlled some other way.So i happily put these earmuffs on my head, congratulating myself for thinking ahead..But I immediately found that I could still hear almost every single word from the people speaking on the TV. Their voices were still too loud.In fact, in the beginning, I thought their voices were booming even louder when i put the earmuffs on. It gave the voices some tunnel effect.Yesterday, there were noisy truck sounds outside my window, early in the day. I put the earmuffs on, and they did help for the most part. But not totally. After a bit, I heard a little whine from outside my bedroom door from my pomeranian son.I was a little surprised that I was able to hear it across the room, through the door. He didn't even have to bark.So although I'd thought I found the perfect solution for blocking out most noise, it's not exactly awesome. If someone speaks in a low, quiet tone next to me, it sounds too muffled to make out. But other noises are still loud. I can hear bass sounds well.So I'm a bit disappointed. There is no way I could go to a noisy bar with a band or DJ playing, for example. I don't trust the earmuffs enough for that purpose. These 3M earmuffs ARE made of good quality. But I'm realizing that I'll definitely have to sacrifice style in order to be able to block noise more efficiently. These neon yellow-green and black earmuffs DO look kinda fly. They do. But I wish there were more colors and options available. I wish higher, more efficient noise protecting earmuffs didn't have to be so huge. Hopefully we will head in that direction in the next few years. It would drive me crazy to be anywhere near construction... even with these snug on my ears. So it's really up to you, and the level of noise protection you require.Since I have a hearing sensitivity, certain repetitive and loud noises bother and hurt me. But for you, it may just block out enough noise so that your hearing will continue to be protected.Either way, there is no doubt. These 3M Peltor X-Series earmuffs, 27db, are made with a lot of care and attention to detail. Its high quality and comfort level are unmatched. If you need lots of hearing protection, get a db34 or up. I have a more efficient pair already from this company.Works well, and I look just like Princess Leia. Except with a larger bun on each side.So does that mean guys find me sexy? Like the real character? No. No it doesn't.5Liked them so much a bought more. Fantastic hearing protection. I am a contractor and have caused myself hearing damage because I did not use these all along. I now have three pairs so I have one in the shop, the truck and a spare.Very comfortable, even when I have safety glasses on. They are adjustable in that you can pull them down and make the headset part longer. They stay in place and really cut the noise down. I use them for weed-whacking, lawn mowing, sawing and when using my impact driver. And it is great when I am using a grinder or other really noisy tool.People, these things really cut the decibals. 5Helps Keep Noise Out For StudyingYes, it doesn't block out everything... it's only rated for 27 NRR, which is right up there with some pretty good earplugs.I bought these for studying (I have executive function issues and am easily distracted - the worst is people talking... I absolutely cannot zone it out (even if I can't understand what they're saying)).I am using this in my bedroom, away from other people, and they work great. I will likely be trying them this weekend with some earplugs to see if I can get studying done with someone in the same room. (That said: if someone is right next to you and tries to talk to you, you can hear them but their voice will be very quiet)They are very tight on the head but I found that if I had them positioned correctly (keeping the bottom of the ear pieces off my jaw as much as possible) they were comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time. This means that I have to be very careful with how I position them and I basically have to wiggle them around my ears till they get in the right place. I expect the grip to loosen slightly over time, but also recognize that the tightness is part of what makes them effective.All-in-all, I'm glad I purchased them. They are very helpful to keep noise out when I'm studying and work better than my earplugs (which admittedly have a lower NRR rating) and don't look ridiculous like some of the larger models.4The perfect ear protection. These are, without a doubt, the best hearing protection I've ever owned. I've tried Howard Leight, Stihl, Home Depot garbage and they all work for a time but about 3-6 months later the plastic ear gasket reacts with sweat and becomes brittle - thus, the dB rating is compromised. These headphones, however, have lasted over a year and the gasket is still pliable and comfortable to wear. The dB rating states 27 dB but is seems to me that these are quieter than similarly rated headphones from other brands.I am a general contractor and daily carpenter. I use these nearly every workday for 8+ hours. On and off, on and off. I drop them constantly and they are still in great shape. I Highly recommend.5Very tight even on a small head and quite heavy...I bought this due to extreme sensitivity to sound due to some neurological issues and along with migraines. I had high hopes, but did not find it helpful. I think some will like these but I didn't. It did muffle sound but not in the way or to the extend I had hoped. I think it's likely better as hearing protection. It's also VERY tight and I found them painful to my head and ears to wear. I have a small head and it was too painful to wear and very heavy. You also have to adjust it quite a bit to get a good fit and get a "seal" over your ears.I'm passing these on to hubby to use when working. They are very well made and should hold up very well. It's not the product's fault that it didn't work for me personally. But do know that if you're buying it for noise sensitivity (and these are rated pretty highly for that, but not the highest) they are heavy, pinch your head and ears (and I'm a tiny person). And you may or may not like what it does and doesn't muffle. I am glad I tried them, but sad they didn't do what I had hoped. But I don't think it's a bad product.3
