Customer Reviews

Super easy to use and fantastic results! As you can see from the picture results speak for themselves! My only grip is my hand got blisters from pulling the pin in and out! I ended up using vice grips to take it in and out. Also, BUY TWO they link together! It saves a bunch if time! I didn't clamp mine after each move and the pin still gave amazing results!5Poorly molded, less than precise. Super disappointed in Kreg.I have always been a fan and a user of Kreg tools /jigs. However, the quality of this one is inferior. The design is OK, but flash on the edges, bushing holes filled with flash and generally sloppy molding make this an iffy tool. The storage space for the pin and the bit, while a good idea, is almost unusable because the latches won't stay closed and retain them. Again, either poor precision molding or poor design. For whatever reason, there is the slightest of offsets in the distance between the first hole and the edge on one end and the corresponding set on the other. So when you go from side to side of you cabinet sides the holes don't align. All in all, I'd buy something better or make my own. Disappointed in KREG on this one. RE: the bit: crazy hard to drill into veneer plywood without major tear out as well. Better to use a router and an up-cutting bit. If you just touch off the bit, and go in slowly, it's better, but easy to wreck a sheet of expensive ply.2Works Great For MeI am a hobbyist, and build the occasional cabinet for myself or friends. I have used this jig on a few projects now, and am mostly happy with it.=== The Good Stuff ===* First and foremost, it is fairly easy to drill a professional-looking series of holes for shelf supports. Previously I had tried it with a drill press and a large table, and there was always one hole that was just a bit off. With this jig, I have drilled large runs of holes- maybe six feet, and they all look perfect.* The tool fits well against the edge of a piece of wood, and with the indexing pin, stays in place pretty well. I don't bother with clamps, just the index pin and a good grip with my hand.* I have stuck to the 5mm holes and pins, and have been happy with the holes and the fit. The pins fit snug, and there isn't a lot of tear-out with the holes. However, most all of my work is done on 8 or 10-ply plywood, which I find easier to work with than particle board or MDF. With either of those materials, I can see having to be a bit more careful with the drill.=== The Not-So-Good Stuff ===* The jig really needs to be one hole larger. I normally drill every-other hole, and since the index pin takes up one hole, I really only get two more holes per placement of the jig. Since this is a hobby, taking a bit of extra time isn't that big of a deal, but if I did this everyday, I can see the advantage of a second jig clamped to the first one.* Again, probably not an issue for me, but I could see that the bushing would begin to wear and get sloppy after a bit of use.=== Summary ===I get great looking hole patterns for not a lot of work and cost. That counts as a success!4Good valueFor the price it's a pretty good value. The drill bit doesn't exactly produce chip free holes in melamine but they are acceptable. Some are perfect, many are not, though when all said and done it won't be that noticeable. They have a 1/4" version and say that you can use a 1/4" bit in this one however be advised that the spacing for the two jigs is not the same - this one is 33mm or 66mm and the other is 1" or 2". I got this one because not only is it cheaper but if I decided I wanted to use 1/4" shelf pins I could always use a standard 1/4" bit because that is the size of the drill guides, whereas if I got the 1/4" jig, I'd have to buy the special reducing bit to make 5mm system holes. One thing I noticed when about to use it was that it didn't sit quite flat and that was because the injection molding points on the back weren't flush, so I had to trim them with a razor blade but not a big deal.It is a bit more time consuming because you can only drill five holes at a time. Although you can hook multiple jigs together that makes it less cost effective. I didn't mind this as I'm only building a few cabinets for myself as a hobby.4Have a tough Task Making Cabinets Then Grab This Task Made Easy Shelf Pin Jig I wondered for years what is the best way to make all those holes you see in cabinets or book shelves for adjustable shelving. I've tried many things through the years but they were all miserable. With a few of these connected together you can make these adjustable shelving holes like a pro.If you are not familiar with Kreg Tools then let me introduce you to some of the coolest tools on planet Earth. Kreg Tools takes tough tasks and creates tools to make them much easier to perform. This tools is no exception. Well made and most people will find it easy to use. Does not look like much but delivers a big punch. Great packaging and shipped safe.Price may make you think twice but don't let that sway you because it works well and lasts forever. 5Good quality and works but somewhat pricey. Same good quality that we expect and are used to from Kreg. I've seen other wood workers who make their own shelf (and other) jigs, but for the majority of the weekend warriors who want to build something quick, this fits the bill perfectly. I'm sure there are other alternatives (like the woodhaven and what not) that is less expensive but you end up buying guide bushings/ centering drill bits. I seem to like the quality of Kreg and no reason not to like. Didn't find usage of the jig extender so far, but that's an example of Kreg thinking. No complaints, works as to be expected. 51/4" & the 5mm jigs are the same jigI own both the 1/4" pin jig & the 5mm pin jig and the jigs are exactly the same. Both use 1/4" guide bushings in the jig. The only difference is the 1/4" jig comes with a stubby 1/4" drill bit, while the 5mm jig comes with a 1/4" stubby drill bit that has been reduced down to 5mm diameter on the last inch or so of the bit. If you need both sizes, it would be much cheaper to buy just one of these jigs, then buy just the bit of the other pin size. Both bit sizes are available on Amazon.4Updated. Info is accurate. 5 stars for itTo seller: item received IS NOT 5mm as advertised. Drilling bit is not 5mm. I noticed after drilling a hole with included bit and my 5mm screw was 'smaller' than drilled hole. Please replace this non-5mm with a real 5mm itemUpdated Feb 9thPlease ignore previous feedback. It was MY bad. I didn't notice drill bit works for 5mm and 1/4" too. My bad was I drilled a deep hole hence it started with 5mm but ended up with 1/4"Said that this item is for 5 stars. Description is accurate (5mm). Sorry for this confusion seller5If you dont have this Jig you should get one.So having a few family members who have built cabinets and things I was used to the usual large clear acrylic jigs and I was looking at those aside from this, many of those jigs do allow you to drill different size holes and are much larger, but at 2-3 times the cost in some instances, bought this Kreg jig as I have some other kreg jigs, and I am not disappointed, the thing I like most is that you can attach two or more of these together but the 5mm pin included to anchor the jig as you drill more holes up of down is great, keeps the jig from shifting and works great. I just built a mitersaw station and used this to finish out a small cubby to store my batteries and small measuring tools, and the Kreg jig made making repeatable shelf pin holes extremely easy. I wish there was an attachment or something that came with the jig so you can offset the jig up or down off the bottom or top of cabinet if you only want pin holes in a portion of your cabinet but that's what I have scrap plywood for I guess.5good tool The jig is good enough. I was making extra holes on the light duty bookcase and used the locating pin and just held the jig down with my hand. Using the edge fence is not necessary. My bookcase is mellamine covered mdf board - ubiquitous cheap furniture. The drill bit left the hole edge a bit tattered. The chips come out upwards but I wish the bit leaves the hole clean like the factory. The locating pin is also slightly thicker than most of the factory holes and needs some force to pin it into the holes. The tattered edge may be due to the drill bit that does not fit snug in the metal sleeve.Seems to be good value. Chose this tool although similar priced jigs make more holes. I liked the simplicity. Don't like drill in the sleeve types - the cheaper kinds leaves a messy hole. 4Very satisfied, but with a couple suggestions. This was money well spent in terms of being easy to use, saving time, and achieving accurate placement of the shelf pin holes. Today was my first day using this jig and based on this limited use, I have a couple suggestions. I was drilling holes the length of 6' side pieces. When using the locating pin, make certain that the pin is firmly pushed down and securely seated into the reference hole. The first couple times I used the locating pin I didn't insert it all the way, so that allowed a little play or movement of the jig, which resulted in very small errors in the placement of the next holes, errors that eventually added up to an unacceptable misalignment of the holes in the two columns. But, making certain that the locating pin is well seated, eliminated this problem. Nevertheless, it's a good ideal to periodically use a square to check that the columns are in alignment. As the instructions point out, proper placement of the top hole in each column is essential. I have only one criticism of the product and that is regarding the design of the locating pin. Because the locating pin fits very tightly when inserted to full depth, which it should be, I found it was necessary to use pliers to grip the locating pin to apply the force necessary to fully insert the pin, and to extract it from the hole. I would suggest a modification to the locating pin. For example, to have a hole drilled perpendicular to and through the top of the locating pin shaft, such that a small rod could be inserted through the hole to provide a simple handle that would make it easier to twist the pin into the hole and to pull it out also, eliminating the need for using pliers. Maybe other people have stronger hands and seating and extracting the locating pin is not a problem. But it is for me. That's why I gave this item only 4 stars. The other observation I would make is that roughly half the time is spent moving the jig to the next position and the other half doing the drilling of the holes. Since I will be doing a lot of this, I have ordered a second jig, which can be locked together with the first to enable me to drill twice the number of holes after each placement. If you're doing a lot of these, I think the second jig would be a good investment, and you get a second drill bit to have on hand. All in all, yes, I definitely would recommend the well thought out, solidly constructed, jig.4Best shelf pin jig out there As usual Kreg does it again...This is by far one of the best shelf pin jigs on the market. Other jigs are made of cheap unlined plastic and can break easily. The others range in price from about half of the Kreg to the exact same price. If you need to put some shelf pins in it will be well worth the money to purchase this product. I own a small custom woodworking business and this jig is a life saver for custom cabinets with adjustable shelves. If you have never used a Kreg jig product they are made of sturdy plastic with metal lined sleeves, a mist when you are running a high speed drill bit through them. This particular jig comes with a pin so you can continue to move up the cabinet and not worry about being off when drilling the holes. If you have a lot of cabinet space to drill you can connect two or more jigs together. If you need to drill some shelf pin holes look no further, Kreg is the jig you need. Be sure to check out there other jigs also. Kreg paid me no money for this review... I am just that happy with their products. 5I LOVE THIS INVENTIONI don't have enough room to adequately explain how great this tool is. I love this invention because of how quickly you can prepare and assemble practically anything. Be careful how you draw the drill bit out of the jig because I was being careful and still snapped off the pilot bit. Once you do that the bit tip has to be returned or replaced. I recommend getting the most complete jig that you can afford because you will appreciate it later on.5Kreg is a good brandI use this at the job site. I drill my pin holes before assembly. Sometimes I may need to add more pinholes. Sometimes I may need to put a shelf where the plans didn't call for a shelf. This is a very convenient product. It's small enough to fit in most places. It's has a very sturdy build. The bit storage in the back is very convenient. You can keep everything associated with this product in one place. In many cases you will need a clamp to hold it in place. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this as your go to device to drill your shelf pin holes prior to assembly in your shop. There are better options that would save you time and money. But, if you are looking for that tool that doesn't take up much space (it's fits in a tool organizer ), has a good design and is very convenient to use at the job site, then this is a good option.4
