EXP1300EXTIt is a good wireless device, and mounted on the tile or between tiles, the range is good.The configuration process is odd, you have to define the options, and at the end store the permanent, and restart the unit, using the button on the top left of the screen. Some browsers do not display the whole configuration screen.Tech support does not exist, you leave a message, and the get back to you after few weeks. At this time you either installed the product, or gave up and send it back.summery - good product, no tech support - 3 weeks is too much to wait for call back4Great Wifi CoverageI bought this AP so that I could improve the wifi coverage in our automotive machine shop. I wanted a model that was POE powered and 802.11ac wave two. I found this one here on Amazon as "lightly used" for $60. I have it mounted to a ceiling support about 15ft up in the air. It covers our 2500 square ft building no problem.Setup is easy if you're already used to Engenius' way of doing things and it only took a few minutes.I'm powering the AP from a TP link switch. The AP also came with a short cord and an AC adapter which I only used while I was getting it set up and testing it before climbing the ladder.Speed is outstanding. I have a desktop PC that's fitted with an inexpensive USB connected 802.11ac adapter and it will easily max out our internet connection at nearly 300mbs from about 40ft away and through a wall from the AP. Typically we have between three and eight wireless clients at any one time and so far so good for the EAP1300.5pretty good once figured outthe quick guide was worthless because the the stated default ip was wrong its 192.168.1.239 not 192.168.0.239. before upgrading firmware I played around with the band steering, could not get 5ghz to stay working. I upgraded firmware, and band steering options were removed! step 1 of upgrading firmware fails, I went straight to step 2 with no problems. Im using this on an outdoor omni antenna with noticeable potential but may have to go manual with 2.4ghz and 5ghz SSIDs. no real 802.11ac in my opinion, but... I have more testing/configuring to do with the new firmware. I will update if my opinion changes.4So far so good - and better, much better than combo router/wireless offerings from Asus and NetgearThis was purchased for use in a home environment, covering about 4,400 square feet with a single unit placed in the lowest of three floors in a corner of the house as an AP. I chose this solution, coupled with a Ubiquiti Networks ER-X-SFP EdgeRouter X (purchased elsewhere, as Amazon did not sell it directly) after I gave up on combo router/wireless solutions that never kept my wireless devices connected for more than three days (Asus) or died within a year of use (Netgear). I must say so far I am impressed. Not a single dropped connection across 16 wireless devices on both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands, with seamless switching between the two with a single SSID. Set up with VLAN support and separate guest and IoT networks, no problem. TP-Link and Amazon (Echos), no problem. Apple devices (phones, laptops) which really do a number on Asus routers, no problem. Video streaming at the other end of the house two floors up, no problem. Noticeable interference from neighboring systems? None. It just works. Configuration for the newbie might seem daunting, and there is limited support online (Ubiquiti shines in this regard, there are tons of videos for their EdgeRouter, and one of their employees has made a bunch of them for a variety of different setups, including the one I am using). Regardless, if you are willing to invest the time in reading a bit up on it, and if your configuration is fairly simple, it can be literally plug and play. But it does allow for some detailed configuration if you are so inclined. A plus? Both this unit and the EdgeRouter cost less than the combined offerings from Asus and Netgear! Granted, there's none of the extraneous services those manufacturers add and which quite literally rarely work, like USB printing from the router. But for me, there's no need for them (plus the EdgeRouter SFP supports direct Fiber connection, which will soon be available where I live). Give me a working solution that I can properly VLAN and VPN on, with a decent firewall, and I'll be happy. Time will tell on longevity, but so far so good after two weeks of uninterrupted use.** UPDATE December 2019 **It's been now almost two years. With NO issues.I installed another EAP1300 in a family member's house, where their wireless signal dropped frequently (requiring a reboot) or the wireless simply locked (allowing no more DHCP leases) due to a mis-behaving HP laptop that 'confused' the router/wireless unit they had. Upon replacement with the EnGenius, the problems went away. No more 'customer support' calls to me in the evenings and weekends for help getting their system back up. No more resetting all wireless devices to figure out which one was causing the wireless lockup. And no more delays due to buffering. Very recommended.5Works wellMy use is as a ceiling mount access point, which is using power over Ethernet (PoE) to supply power to the device. It works fine with a couple of non-EnGenius PoE switches, some reports indicate a need for EnGenius switches for PoE, this appears not to be the case. Set up required using a PoE switch and a PC to configure as it came without DHCP enabled and had a static IP address of 192.168.1.1 (same as many home routers). Once DHCP was enabled it was easy to manage.If you want to set up multiple EnGenius access points, and roam between them seamlessly, there is EnGenius software that will help, also an EnGenius switch also has support to help with access point roaming. Without their software, the device is still very capable as a stand alone access point, mounting was a breeze, and configuration wasn't difficult. Some knowledge of networking helps, but most people should be able to figure out device setup.So far, with 2 set up in my home, they seem to provide very good coverage and decent speeds.4Rich Feature Set and Great RangeI purchased this AP when my 5 year old EnGenuis ECB350 starting dropping signal. The ECB350 was a 300N device that served the upstairs in my house and my Comcast-Arris wireless router served the downstairs. I also wanted to upgrade to 802.11ac and the EAP1300 has an attractive price and 2x2 wave 2 wireless.Contrary to some of the reviews, I found the EAP1300 was one of the easiest wireless products that I have setup. I am not a network guru and I don't work in an IT department. I am an engineer that fiddles with things and has a basic understanding of networking and wireless. I connected the AP to my network and found its IP from my router. Once I knew the IP, I logged into the AP web interface with Chrome and proceeded to configure it. I was surprised at the level of features and configuration options. Of the things I liked:- The transmit power for the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz band can be set separately. This gives you more flexibility to balance the strength of different access points and routers on your network.- The auto channel selection lets you specify which channels you want it to use. You can select anywhere from 1 to all channels and pick and choose as you wish.- The band steering allows you to set a signal threshold for when to steer devices to 5 GHz. This is useful for maximizing the range and specifying when devices should get 5 GHz (shorter range, but faster speed) or drop to 2.4 GHz (longer range, but slower speeds).- There are a lot more features on this access point than I am used to for typical consumer devices. All the settings make this a great SOHO or small business access point. It makes me want to buy enterprise class hardware in the future.The features are great, but it is the range that I really love. I have a 3,000 sq ft house with a 1,300 sq ft attached garage. I get 5 GHz signal throughout the house with > 100 Mbs speeds in my bedroom, living room, and family room (I have 150 Mbs internet service). In the rest of the house, I still manage > 50 Mbs and in the garage I get 20 Mbs. This is with the access point ceiling mounted in the second floor of my home in a central hallway. I also disabled N300 radio on the Comcast router. This AP rendered it completely obsolete.The only negative thing about the EAP1300 is that it does not include a poe injector. Several competing models in this price range do. It wasn't a big deal for me, since I have a power outlet in my attic not far from where I installed the AP.5This thing is AMAZING. I have a two-story houseThis thing is AMAZING. I have a two-story house, the router is upstairs, and I need coverage downstairs in the den. I thought I would have to buy two, but one unit services the downstairs quite well, and upstairs coverage is wonderful. It gets the job done, and done well.It solves a bad problem: an older home with no Ethernet cabling in the walls.That said ... I have to give the manufacturer a 1-star rating for instructions. It took me several days of Internet research to puzzle through how to configure this unit for WDS Bridge mode, and the supplies manual is missing a critical step as are several of that associated YouTube videos. Also, saving the settings requires using a special sequence of screens that is not found in the manual. Otherwise the unit forgets it's settings when the power is removed.Suggestion to manufacturer --- make it clear that using this unit in WDS Bridge mode requires two of these units (one on each end of the link) ... clearly explain how settings must be saved ... and fix the instructions for configuring WDS Bridge mode.Otherwise ... this unit is professional installation only and not for the general consumer.5Excellent value and performance in split-level home.Update 11.13.19: These things continue to impress me... both of mine were 'open box' and work just fine. Company seems to be keeping up with firmware updates which is impressive. These are really diamonds in the rough... imho============Works great...120+ days uptime... Never have to reset it...Latest firmware now supports mobile app for setup.We live in a split-level a home and always struggled with a good placement of our router.This AP has done a fantastic job covering the entire house from its location on the upstairs ceiling with 2.4ghz.5ghz is great as well, but as expected is weak in downstairs corner once the signal has to go through 5 or 6 walls and the floor. (Planning to buy another one and mount on downstairs near router... )More details about my installation...I have the cable modem and router (Asus rt-ac68u) downstairs under the stairs.... Ran a 100ft network cable into the garage and then up into upstairs closet, up along wall and into attic. Then over to the spot on the ceiling where it's mounted. About the size of a smoke detector and you can turn the LEDs off so it doesn't attrack attention.Every situation is different... for us it's been great. The AP wifi serves most of the tech in the house... 5ghz dedicated to Media stuff like xbox and firetv, 2.4ghz used for all our mobiles, tablets, smartspeakers etc.As for the asus router under the stairs i created a separate 2.4ghz network, different channel than engenius, just for our daughter's iPhone.(iPhones iPads have such weak antennas they don't TRANSMIT enough signal back to the AP.... they'll have connectivity issues even though on the phone shows strong signal bars... most APs can't hear the iPhones iPad weak signal). You simply have to an AP close to an iPhone iPad in my experience.5
