Customer Reviews

Fixed Skype Sorta big. Microphone wire is sort of STIFF and stays where it wants to, a bit hard to shape it to where you want and it doesn't move after that. That said, I was having many issues with my laptop microphone and the internet speed provided in my basic package. (I was not going to pay $1100 for two years of 'enhanced speed' "under contract" to try to fix it). The sound quality is excellent, the microphone does pick up very well, and with the USB plug if I had a wonky audio plug that issue is now moot. I have tinntinitus so an objective on range of the ear speakers isn't really possible. I will say I can easily adjust this on my sound controls to seem balanced to my hearing; I can hear friends speak to me very well; and they can hear me plainly and clearly now. Skype calls are now back to being possible, clear on both sides and standable. Even in group calls. I will recommend these if you need to do or make a lot of Skype calls and are having problems. Earcups seem comfortable as well, and there is a bit of cord length. I can get up and grab something off a bookcase, not really move from the area of my computer chair, but, not tightly leashed either. I give it five stars because these seem to be an excellent solution to what looked like an expensive problem. (and taking my laptop apart to put a new audio card or set of audio plugs in it, plus replacing the cam/mike, wasn't exactly what I wanted to do either) 5Great so far! Noise cancelling a little too good I bought this for my boyfriend for his birthday... a few comments from him and me:1) The noise canceling is fantastic. I can pretty much yell at him and he won't hear me. (This is also kinda hilarious when he's playing Left 4 Dead...I can tap him on the shoulder and he jumps about 3 feet)2) The sound is excellent. I listened to it myself. A lot better than the $40 logitech pair I bought myself.3) He's been wearing them about 2-4 hours a day since getting them...he complained the first day they felt a bit tight, but no comfort complaints since.4) The mic sticks out pretty far from the face. He was worried about that at first, but everyone seems to hear him so no more concerns there.5) They're huge. They don't look it in the picture but they're very large. Like the size of headphones you'd find at a gun range or for use on private aircraft. Not terribly heavy though, considering.6) There isn't a volume adjust on the cord. This didn't occur to me, but it was pretty much the first thing he noticed out of the box.All in all he seems happy...so I'm glad I chose these.Update 3/11/2013 - they're still getting daily use by him for hours a day and still working as well as they did new. No durability issues to date, nor has he felt any need to replace/upgrade them.Update: 11/19/2013 - they died this week. As with most complaints, it was the mic that went. Still, they have probably a few thousand hours of use on them and lasted over 2.5 years. For $30 I'm going to leave the 4 star rating alone and say that they were still money well spent, at least in our case. 4Outstanding audio quality for $25, has 2 separate 3-conductor 3.5 mm mini- phone plugs (mic out & earphones in) I have found that Koss often offers outstanding audio quality in low-priced headphones, and this unit has outstanding audio quality for $25.Connectors: two separate 3-conductor 3.5 mm mini-phone plugs; a gray plug for microphone output, and a black plug for stereo headphone input. These can be combined using a product called a Y-splitter (ENVEL 3.5 mm Jack Cable Adapter for $4.99), which is required to use this unit with any laptop or cell phone with a 4-conductor mini-phone jack (as they all do these days).ENVEL 3.5mm Jack Cable Adapter Kit Mutual Convertors for Notebook Mac PS4 and Smartphone Tablet Earphone with Headphone/Microphone Simultaneously Y Splitter Audio 2 Female to 1 Male 5i do not recommend koss. only survived 39 days, used it less than 10 times. right side lost sound, only get sound from left side. mic is terrible, it needs to be right up to your face. the folding mechanism is annoying and feels cheap. headphones hug the head hard. sound is crappy, cheaper non-name brands do way better. overall terrible headphones.warranty from manufacture: i must ship with my own money, and send them a $9.00 money order to ship back to me, right... never buying from koss ever again... im gonna stick to sennheiser, koss is a joke, koss can offer me another pair and i will decline offer. headphoneds are now in trash. 1Purchased January 28, 2016. As of today, the right side speaker has stopped functioning. I use these every day at work. I take them on and off multiple times during the day. The joints are flexible and malleable. With some minor adjustments, I was able to find a good position to wear it on my head, but the foam pads are a little too shallow, allowing the tops of my ears to come in contact with the plastic interior of the ear cup, which causes a little ear pain necessitating that I adjust positioning every once in a while. As of today, the right side speaker has started to go out, depending on the position of the left side speaker. I can adjust to an extent and it will start working, but this heralds the end of this headset's era. From what I was able to perceive, the microphone seemed to work well. I never received any sound quality complaints when using it to make phone calls.I was hoping to get more time out of this headset. I think it was a mistake for the manufacturer to use what appears to be 20 gauge wire to go between the left and right side speaker. Further, the USB cable seems like it's supremely fragile. I honestly had expected the whole headset to go out first due to the number of times I'd run it over with my desk chair's wheels. C'est la vie.The whole time I'd used this, I have been running Ubuntu, which fully supports this headset. 2The microphone boom sticks way out in your field of vision, and cannot be rotated down far enough. I bought this headset hoping it would be an "On-The-Ear" headset, and lighter and more comfortable than my current Corsair 1500 USB headset, which is geared towards very large heads and is very heavy. This headset is only marginally more comfortable on the head and ears than my Corsair 1500 headset, but the Corsair has better sound, an inline volume and mic mute control, and the mic doesn't impede my field of vision. To me, the sound quality on this Koss headset is just average.Because the pictures don't show people actually wearing it, it's hard to gauge the size of the headset. This is a full-size, OVER-THE-EARS headset, with a boom mic that can be swiveled upwards. My biggest problem with the set is that the boom mic cannot be swiveled down far enough, and it sticks forward about 5-6 inches in front of my face, and is surprisingly distracting. I play games on my PC and listen to music and movies while working on my computer. I have several large screens, and I look around a lot, and the mic is right in my field of vision, it is unbelievably irritating. At least I now know firsthand what it's like to be shot in the face with an arrow and have the feathered end moving around every time I turn my head.I don't know why the engineers at Koss decided to prevent you from rotating the mic down below your chin out of view. But it does allow you to rotate it behind your head the same distance, in case you're one of those people who's mouth is in the back of your head. Or, maybe it's for people who's left and right ears were swapped at birth... Some marketing jerk probably said: "We gotta account for those poor sobs too!"If I can't figure out a hack for the boom mic issue, I doubt I will ever use them. I wish Amazon and manufacturers would include pictures of people wearing the headsets to give a better perspective in the sizing. 3No Volume Control Despite Description Stating Such The description on this headset is inaccurate, it states that it comes with in-line volume control, but it does not have any volume control at all. (Attaching screenshot of description at time of purchase in the event the description is changed to accurately reflect available features). The sound quality is good, the over-ear speakers are comfortable, and the mic works well but it is little on the soft side in terms of volume. 3Mic Needs a Pre-Amp to use with a PA or mixer Pretty solid, especially for the cost. Headset worked fine with an iPhone (with adapter) and computer - however, my application is for a talkback mic on a mixing board, and the mic output / gain is way too low for my Mackie or Peavey mixers, even with the pre-gain pegged. Fortunately I had a couple of inline pre-amps (3.5mm in / 1/4" out) floating around that came with some lav mics and they worked great. I suspect some of the "mic did not work" reviews were folks trying to use the mic with amps, PAs, etc. and they need a pre-amp. 4Great for Voice Recording I was looking to replace my old LifeChat LX-3000 phones because of their low mic record volume. I do voice recording for home movies and I also use them to take voice-to-text notes using Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition software. I was actually considering headphone products at 10x the price, but decided to give these a try based on favorable reviews. In short I am really delighted with the voice-record quality. In general I record then tweak the audio in SoundForge, and it was very obvious viewing the waveforms that I was getting about 3x the amplitude using the Koss phones. Clear as a bell. Audio playback also fine. Highly recommended. One minor complaint: I find they are a bit tight fitting though, so I just store them stretched wide across the top of my PC cabinet... which softens the fit just right when I pull them off to use.BTW: I had a lot of trouble with other vendor headphones... there was some design problem with laptop/PC USB grounding which left a "ground hum" (buzzing noise) in your voice recordings. I can't believe how many products had this problem. Back when I bought the LifeChat 3000, they were one of the few USB phones that completely solved the problem. I was actually pretty leery to buy another set of phones, concerned I'd run into this issue all over again. Anyway, happy to report the Koss SB45s have no buzzing noise at all, just as you'd naturally expect. Good luck with them. 5I received my Koss headphones w/mic a few days ago and they are working good as expected. I bought my Koss headphones w/mic for the purpose of not disturbing the rest of the house while I listen to music from my PC (sometimes I crank up the volume). They are working as expected, and they are very light (primarily made of plastic), but I have not tried out the microphone yet. I hope the clarity is good from the microphone. The headphones sound very good to me. I'll say the sound is average but what can you expect from a set of plastic headphones that cost around $35. The soft leather that wraps around what ever is spongy inside the ear cups and head band are superb. I have trouble hearing some high notes, but the low and medium notes come in nice and clear, and the bass notes sound great when the music has them. They are not sound cancelling for noises such as voices, though when I play my music with them my girl friend does not hear the music at all while sitting next to me. It is money well spent, even if the sound is "average". Though the fit is fairly good, it took awhile to get comfortable with them, I had to re position the headphones around my ears. I don't have large ears, but the comfy ear cushions are snug enough. Once positioned nicely they could be worn for hours. I will say that after one or two hours my ears were beginning to sweat and itch. But that is just me, the ear cups are vented at the top. When using the headphones and not needing the mic, I swing the mic upwards in line with the head band were it is out of the way. The microphone needs to have a little bit more tension on the swing arm because while adjusting the ear cups to properly fit my head the mic drops down one or two clicks, either front or back.I hope this helps someone making a tough decision to buy these or another brand. 5
