Customer Reviews

Very nice monocular! I had asked if it came with ... Very nice monocular!I had asked if it came with a case that would fit on my belt and received both "yes" and "no" answers. Well, it comes with a very nice pouch with belt loops as well as a fairly sturdy scope-mounted belt clip. Views are sharp and very bright. Focusing is easy with one hand. I took off one star just because I'm left-handed and would have liked it if the belt clip could be moved to the other side just for comfort. But that's just a personal opinion. On it's own merit it would be 5 stars.Recommended if you want a great 10x monocular. 4Clear Great Colors, but had to return because of the poor cap design ED Glass ROCKS! I think the eye caps could have been a little better. Would like them to have been more rubbery. See the review on Youtube about the covers digging in to the Monocular. Other than that one little gripe, I LOVE this monocular. I got it on Amazon Warehouse Deals, Inc with damaged packaging for $144. It was in perfect condition. I believe it is worth the $178.49 price at the time of this post. The reason this monocular is worth the asking price is because of it's BaK-4 prisms, fully multi-coated optics, ***ED Prime Glass***, and PC-3 Phase Coated prism. The view is clear and the colors I see thru them look great.5 Stars for build quality and ED Glass. ZERO stars for the stupid lens caps digging in to the rubber armor.Edit: After having these a few days, I returned them. I LOVE the ED Glass and the view but the lens caps are not designed like most lens caps for other monuclars & binoculars. They are a hard plastic lens caps and they cause crease like dents in the rubber armor. I can see after lots of use of this probably tearing up the rubber. If Bushnell would have just used soft rubber lens caps like almost everyone else then this simple problem could have been fixed. Youtube search this monocular and look at the videos. There are only a few but one guy shows the creases these caps do to the rubber armor. This is my only grip with this monocular. The view thru it is beautiful as most ED Glass is. 3overpriced By all means, this is a great monocular and arguably the best monocular to date. The optic is amazing; great clarity, detail, color quality, and light capture. The focusing ring is super precise and fluid. The build quality is solid. The problem is that all the new Chinese optics flooding the market, which cost anywhere from $7 to $20 are VERY comparable in terms of optical performance. The Bushnell is better, but not $180 better. Not to mention the Bushnell is Chinese made too...so wtf are you paying for at that point?I will leave it at this: this Bushnell Monocular is probably the best sub $200 monocular on the market, but its competing with $20 Chinese massmarket monoculars which are only marginally worse. Therefore the value proposition is the Bushnell simply isn't there and I would advise people to shop around. The retail box, cleaning cloth, lanyard, holster, etc... are all mediocre as well. Will be returning this. 3Quality you can recognize as soon as you take it out of the box The second you take this monocular out of the box you can see and feel the quality. My father who was always a big binocular guy and always had quality binoculars was very surprised in the quality of this monocular as soon as he removed it from the box. It comes in a really nice protective carrying case with a lanyard and cleaning cloth. The monocular has a cover for both the viewing glass and the magnifying glass. It has a belt clip holder too making it easy to store and use in a hurry. It also has brackets to mount to a stand if you d prefer. We played around with it in our home once buying it and we were able to read the labels on the boxes on our neighbors doorstep about 300ft away. It was only laundry detergent so were not totally creepy! It s not super light weight which I think is good because if it was too light weight the quality would be chrappy. It s light enough that you can use it with one hand and focus it easily. The focus is a little knob on the top that can be maneuvered with a finger. Only con is the cap seems to flip up and down while using it so it seemed like a black dot was going across the view but it was just the cap. So I just held it down and that was no longer an issue. 5I could not tell which one had better optics. The Polaris being 12x50 objects were much ... I waited over a month to get it, in that time I bought the Polaris model for more then half the price. When comparing, I could not tell which one had better optics. The Polaris being 12x50 objects were much closer and equally as good visually as the Bushnell. The Bushnell is smaller, lighter and has better features then the Polaris. Purchased new for $156, now it sells for $186, the Polaris was $66. 4Compares favorably to Vortex DiamondBack!!! UPDATED 6-23-2016 UPDATED 6-23-2016 The image on this monocular is DEFINITELY better than from a Vortex DiamondBack 10x42 binoculars (purchased in 2014). This monocular is also definitely Brighter in it's light gathering, enough to be slightly noticeable. I've done extensive back-and-forth between this monocular, the DiamondBack 10x42's and the DiamondBack 8x28's. I purchased this monocular after having been very unhappy with my purchase of the Vortex Solo 10x36 Monocular. The Vortex monocular was pretty much impossible to focus with the same hand that was holding the unit. The Vortex monocular's focus ring was ridiculously stiff! The focus adjuster on this Bushnell monocular can be adjusted just fine with a single finger from the same hand which is holding the unit. It is not as smooth as the focus adjuster on my Vortex DiamondBack Binoculars... but not too much stiffer than those binoculars. Also.. this unit comes with a flip-down style Objective Lens cap, and the eye-piece has a tethered rubber cap. The Picatinny-rail piece you see in the photographs has 3 slots thru it and the middle slot of those has a standard 1/4-20 threaded tripod mount hole in it. This Bushnell monocular also has a nice strong belt-clip attached to the left-hand side of the unit (if looking thru the unit with the focus adjuster sitting on the top as in the picture here). The attached photos were taken by simply holding up my Nokia Lumia 928 cellphone by-hand up to the lense of this Bushnell Monocular while I had it on the Tripod. The deer in the photos are 100 yards away.I will appreciate the weight savings this device will give me for those times when I wish to pack-in my spotting scope as well. 5Good product bad packaging. I received it last night and currently my major concern is about the delivery. There was no cushioning in the package but such a subtle optical device deserves better protection. I'm also wondering why the lens cap opens to the downside instead of shading the sun. This is my first monocular and I previously owned a 10x40 binocular. I tried it in my back yard in a clear morning. The brightness and clarity are satisfactory. The weight is ok for me and stability is not a problem (much lighter than my camera&lens). The size is compact enough for most, if not all, males (my fingers are not long), and I wish it is not too large for my girlfriend. The minimum focusing distance is around 6~7 ft.I m bringing it to Cancun and let s see how well it works.==============update after Canc n trip=======Nice. Very bright. My girlfriend also liked it. The guard at Chichen Itza looked at it to make sure this is not something dangerous. See the pictures I took with iPhone 6s Plus with bare hands (no racks, standing) in paranoid mode.Another thing to mention is that this 10x42 monoscope is not suitable for star seeing. The 10x zooming makes the field of sight too narrow to see large structures and the stability of my hands is another problem. 5Outstanding... As a S.W. Pennsylvania groundhog hunter I became tired of 7x50 Nikon bulky binoculars in spite of their outstanding optical quality...After reading the reviews of this Bushnell monocular (nothing less than 4 stars) I decided to buy it and I am not disappointed...Having used Hasselblad, Nikon and Leica lenses as well as Schnieder view camera lenses throughout my career as a Industrial, commercial photographer, I was amazed with the photographic quality of the images of this somewhat humble lens...If any of you readers know what Kodachrome images are all about you will understand...Detail of current emerging spring colors is utterly wonderful even at great distances...Being able to resolve nearly invisible power lines at a mile distance is remarkable...Detail in the shadows of tree lines, where groundhogs may hang out, is excellent...Spotting a whistle pig's head in tall grass at several hundred yards is a breeze with a 10x, which is where the 7x50's were lacking...All in all I could not be more pleased and it fits nicely in a hunting vest cargo pocket...Good all around and for $150.00 it is amazing...Shoot straight and speak the truth:ChuckPS... I removed the belt clip and the tripod mount socket... 5DEFECTIVE item/ repair impossible Although i was initially very happy w/ the increased power on a monocular - and of course the product name is a well known in the industry - after only a few weeks of regular use the screws from the clip-on fell out.Because these are super tiny screws it was impossible to find them once out. And basically made carrying the monocular a pain. As i usually clip it onto my pocket while hiking for easy access. So, we attempted to find replacement screws (we were on the road and sending the product back would not have worked well for us) we checked at both a jeweler and a gunsmith, as well as a hardware store - no one had replacement screws that would work. The rest of the trip i just had to adapt while carrying. A bit of a headache.Once we returned home, my husband contacted Bushnell at their corporate offices and their response was positive - they'd requested we send the product back and they promised to send a new item. Also noting that the model we purchased is going to be discontinued.I'm not certain what that means for me being the owner of a discontinued model? But we will see how quickly i recieve the new scope. We had to pay for shipping to the company (about $12)Other than this I certainly enjoyed the higher-powered version and with the replacement i will secure the screws somehow prior to clipping onto my clothes to assure this won't happen again.NEW NOTE: we havent heard back from Bushnell, although at first the gentleman sounded super helpful - now, we are told the item is no longer available and on "back-order" so - I am going to request the otem be returned and we will see how long this takes. Also, i would reccomend to any Amazon customer going through the Amazon process to return a defective item - it seems when Amazon (being the middle man) is involved the process is less complicated. Now, i am just going to send back and request a refund for defective (expensive item and good name brand? Go figure?) Item and just try another brand on Amazon for half the price. 3Really - really great unit This unit goes into my daily carry bag. For some individuals this monocular will be just a bit big or heavy for an every day carry bag, but I really like tools that are made very well, and as long as the size is functional and beneficial to the task for which it is being used, I really don't care if the item is a bit big. I come from the school of thought that says that many large items can do the job of a small item but not all small items can do the job of a larger item. The most important thing to keep in mind is that this has to be one of the top monoculars on the market. The optics are super clear even when there isn't much light out (the size of the front glass is very benificial/helpful with the lighting and clarity). I keep this item in its little case and in my "Mongo" by Maxpidition along with other items. Well, I've already gone on a bit long here, but put simply, if you want to get an up and close visual of a bird or possible trouble ahead in the distance etc... You really can't go wrong with this unit, so, buy this unit, I did and I'm glad I did.Weston Knight 5
