Customer Reviews

A bit flaky when switching between sources, doesn't disconnect inactive sources.I ended up returning this because it did not work well for my dual-monitor multi-computer setup. One issue is that it seems a bit finicky when trying to display both an HDMI and DVI (with hdmi adapter) input source. If the HDMI is on output A and the DVI is on output B, it seems to mostly work, but it usually doesn't work when the DVI input is on output A and the HDMI input is on output B. But even in the first case, it would sometimes not work correctly and I would have to power cycle the matrix, or switch back and forth inputs a bit until the inputs were correctly displayedAnother issue is that it keeps the inputs actively connected even when they're not being used. This is great if you only want to show both inputs from a single computer, but if you want to mix and match, so that, e.g. output A is showing the first display from the first computer and output B is showing the first display from the second computer, then both computers still think they have 2 monitors attached, and so any windows on the hidden screens are inaccessible. My previous matrix (which finally stopped working after a few years :( ) disconnected any inactive inputs, so that in the above scenario, both computers only think they have a single display attached, so they don't have a hidden, inaccessible screen, and all windows are put on the one display. 3OREI HD-602 internal EDID Audio mode has issuesThe OREI HD-602 Matrix switch/Splitter works well with one exception - the EDID audio override mode cannot be disabled or set to follow the source as stated in the features list:"Audio EDID features allows you to force the Audio output to Auto (same as source) 2.1ch, 5.1ch, or 7.1ch to the output display"I expected that pressing the EDID button would me to cycle through the EDID modes - Auto (leds off), 2.0, 5.1, 7.1 - but Auto modedoesn't seem to exist. This creates real problems when the selected source requires different audio modes, and possible change them depending on the media being played.I note that the manual in the box makes no mention of an EDID Auto (same as source) selection.I have submitted a question to OREI and await a response. 3Worked Fantastic for a couple of days then went bye byeI had this switch setup professionally by Magnolia. I have a PS3/PS4/Xbox One/Xbox 360/Hyperspin PC/Wii U going to this switch. For the first couple of days everything was great. After a week though I noticed the second feed would only feed the PS3 and PS4 to the second monitor. Also, the Xbox's stopped displaying completely to the second monitor.I reset the switch and it started working again. After a couple of hours though it started not to display anything to the second monitor. Then the Xbox 360 started showing line artifacts all over the screen.Thinking it was maybe the HDMI cables I swapped them out. Same problem. So I took apart all the work I had paid for and laid everyting out along the floor to the projector and the secondary monitor. Tested with the switch.......Nada, nothing, just "Looking for signal" When connecting directly to the Projector everything looked fantastic. Connected directly to the secondary monitor also looked great.Once again routed everything through the switch and this time only the Xbox One works. So I've put a return in to Amazon and am waiting for my replacement of this device to come in, its possible I got a defective one. The build quality looks to be outstanding and the remote is really high quality, the packaging was fantastic. Looks to be just great device, but until I get the replacement I won't know. I'll update the review once I have the replacement and have everything wired up again. This is really frustrating as it takes hours to do this, routing all the HDMI cables, moving AV furniture. Sigh. 23 remotes....and countingIf you don't need the remote, go for it. It'll work well as long as you don't need the remote to do the job. When I got it, the remote didn't work and I bought a brand new one. None of the buttons worked, not a single one. So I emailed the manufacturer, Within a week I had a new remote. But that one didn't work either. Not one single button worked. So I emailed them again. This time they promised that they'd test it before shipping it. I received the second replacement (third remote) and to my surprise, some of the buttons work. None of them were tethered to the actual button it's suppose to be and all the working buttons only work with output 1. Still not able to control output 2 with the remote. So I've emailed them again, it's been 2 days and I haven't heard back. I suppose I'll update this when we get this resolved...or not.UPDATE10 days after writing the original review I have received the 4th and final remote that finally works as it s suppose to. I m taking away a star for trouble. Customer service is responsive. My experience was entirely conducted through email. The longest I ve had to wait for a response is 2 days but most of those responses were within 24 hours. That s pretty typical though for email communications. The switch itself is worth it. I ve had it for about 6 weeks. I ve seen it flicker probably twice. The screen would blink out for a second or two then back in like it never happened. Twice in 6 weeks for a 2x2 switch with a remote for $35 is something I m ok with. Plus it might be a cheap hdmi cable I m using. I didn t check to see if there are any compatibility issues. This switch advertises that is supports PIP. It doesn t! I would ve have liked to have had that feature and I m a bit disappointed that it wasn t included but it serves its purpose and I m content with my purchase. If I had to buy it again I would. 4Works only about 75% of the timeAfter using this daily for about 6 months, it works about 75% of the time. It always flickers when switched, sometimes needs reset, turned off, etc. If there's another choice, I'd go that route. 2Does the job, great for console recorders & streamers.I was torn on which one to buy, because there are a lot of these units on Amazon that look identical, with different brands slapped on the casing. They all had mixed review but this one seemed like a good gamble, and it was. The unit itself is small and sturdy, the LED's are all red, and not too bright. The remote works, and being able to turn the unit on/off is a nice touch - I have had it for months and I haven't touched the unit since the day I hooked it up.I use the unit to run output A to my TV, and Output B to my PC/Elgato. This enables me to use the 6 inputs for PS4, PS3, PSTV, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Elgato's HDMI Output, to output to the TV and recording device simultaneously, all ready at the touch of a remote. This also adds the ability to use the Elgato as an HDMI converter for analog consoles, provided you have the Component/Composite & S-Video adapter. With this method, gone are the days of having to switch cables, and change video/gamma settings every time I swapped consoles on the elgato. Everything ready-to-go, all the time. So yeah, it's a handy device. All HDMI functions on consoles seem to work fine. 5Does not work reliablyI bought this unit to allow me to switch between two different computers (my desktop and a laptop) and two different monitors (the computer monitor and our wall mounted 4K TV).Though my needs seems to fit the standard use case, from the start this unit has never worked reliably. Upon each 'wakeup' of my computer and monitor I'm presented with a random symptom: screen flickering or the entire screen disappearing to black for a second or the screen almost 'vibrating' where the pixels move up and down rapidly. The only way to 'fix' it I've found is to keep resetting the power on the unit. Sometimes that works, sometimes that results in simply no screen displaying and then I have to hard reboot the computer. The second output to the 4K TV has only worked once or twice. 1Happy customerThis is the third such device I have purchased, and the first that just worked without any issues. I have a gaming PC and a Mac laptop, a gaming monitor and an HDTV in my office and with this unit I'm able to send the video and audio at native resolution from either device, to either device, which lets me have both a desktop experience or a 'console/HTPC' experience depending on what I'm doing. I did have some initial issues with my cheap HDTV not always recognizing the switch to a new input, but I RTFM, set the DIP switches accordingly and it was worked flawlessly ever since! If you have a need for simple HDMI signal routing, I highly recommend this unit. 5Works For Set Up with Older TVSo we have a Samsung TV from 2009 hanging in bedroom. I want to replace it but wife loves the screen display. Says it's bright and clear. Well the speakers are going out, one HDMI input went out and the optical output doesn't work anymore. So I thought I could try a work around with this splitter. I have the cable box and Roku going in and one out to Panasonic sound bar with it passing signal to tv. And it works! Great sound with great picture. It does require keeping the splitter's little remote handy to switch from cable to Roku. But that's okay.I'm knocking off one star because remote does not power splitter on and off. I was hoping to keep set up easy for wife to use. Having to physically power on and off and keep remote handy is troubling. But hey, maybe wifey will complain and I'll say it's time for new tv! 4Does exactly what I wantI got this switcher to allow me to fully de-couple what I see on my TV and what I hear on my receiver's speakers. A couple of examples will best demonstrate what I wanted to do:1. Play Virtual Console NES or SNES games on my Wii U while listening to MP3s streaming on Plex from my Fire Stick. If sound is useful in the games then I can optionally turn up the TV speakers to hear cues from the games at the same time as my music.2. Watch nationally-broadcast games on TV, but listen to the local radio broadcast through my receiver's tuner.3. Display pretty pictures or a slide show on my TV and listen to Spotify.4. Decide if I want to hear the speakers/subwoofer when I watch a movie, or just listen to the TV speakers and mute the receiver if it's late and my spouse is sleeping. Amazingly my receiver "strips" the audio from its HDMI output. This is probably the fault of some imaginary HDCP bugbear spooking empty-headed suits in a conference room somewhere rather than legitimate piracy concerns ("Hey, Lester! Let's duplicate only the audio from this Blu-Ray!") but infuriating nonetheless. To accomplish these and other goals, I hooked it up so the "A" output goes to an input on my receiver ("A" is for "Audio") and the "B" output goes to an input on my TV ("B" is for... "Bideo"???). I then hooked up my various HDMI devices (with six inputs I was able to get a DVR, three game consoles, and two streaming sticks all plugged in), and it works flawlessly! I had two concerns about sound that soon proved to be unfounded. The first was that it would "dumb down" to the lowest number of audio channels supported by any of my devices. This turned out not to be the case -- the receiver correctly switches to surround sound for Blu-Rays, for example, and the TV seems to be correctly detecting a two-channel audio mix. The second concern was that there would be some noticeable difference in the sound and video (i.e. irritating lip synch problems), but I have not yet noticed any problems in that area. I should point out that I have a Logitech Harmony remote, which makes the management of switching inputs on the HDMI switcher, receiver, and TV crazy simple. It would likely be a pain to do all of that switching by hand with three different remotes.I only run the inputs I am most likely to want to mix and match through this. Since it occupies a single input on my receiver it frees up the other ports for other uses, with the caveat that in those cases I have to see and hear the same thing, and only hear the receiver speakers. The "Picture-in-Picture" really isn't what you traditionally think of when imagining PIP. From what I can tell it's more like a visual way to choose one of the six inputs to switch to (it shows you tiny snapshots of what's being displayed on each). The only other downside is that every once in a while it will miss an IR command. I think this has more to do with where I put it than any sort of flaw in the device though. I've had this as part of my setup for almost a whole year and it does exactly what I want with no problem. 5
